Good God is it that time again?

It certainly is and we should be prepared for a feast of action in the lower leagues of the beautiful game this season. It's already been pretty excited with the whole Livigate saga north of the border(which has ultimately resulted in my beloved Blue Brazil being promoted without kicking a ball) and for that reason i want things to settle down a little before putting my hard earned on any game in Scotland.

As long time, regular readers(if I have any ) will know, I am very cautious early on in the season and don't intend to break that rule this season either. Going for the obvious in the first few weeks has served me well in the past so if it ain't broken, I'm not going to fix it.

So then, two bets this week, both in League1.

MK Dons were unlucky not to be promoted last season and automatic promotion will be their aim this season. If they are to achieve this aim they will need to beat teams like Hartlepool. Especially at home. Paul Ince is back in charge and he's a popular man in the land of the concrete cows so will have the fans support. 4/6 is available with Bet365, Ladbrokes and Coral. It should be taken.

Meanwhile, on the south coast, Southampton are going to be looking to bounce back up into the Championship and can get going by beating Millwall who have a few injury issues to say the least. The Saints appear at almost full strength and as a Leeds fan, I know that it is harder to get out of this league than it might at first seem, however, Leicester bounced back up in tremendous style last season and Southampton can do the same if they put their mind to it. They are 11/10 with various bookies including the three I mentioned earlier. That's a good price if you ask me.

So that's your lot this week folks. Bets are;

Southampton- 11/10(Various)
MK Dons-       4/6(Bet365, Ladbrokes & Coral)

Happy punting all...

Profit    -£2

As most of you know I live in Norwich and talk round this way is of one thing. The bizarre sacking of City legend Brian Gunn. I've spoken to a few people about this and they are unanimous in their anger towards the board. In my opinion the Norwich fans to a certain extent only have themselves to blame as they pushed so hard for Gunny to take the helm when he had no experience. The board gave in and appointed him. OK so a 7-1 loss at home to Colchester on the first day of the season is not exactly the ideal start to your campaign and if they were to sack him the day after that, while it would have still been a silly move, you could have understood it. But he turned it round at Yeovil with an impressive display and why they sack him the day before a game when they have stayed down in the South West from their midweek encounter is beyond me and everyone else. Norwich are a team in disarray at the moment. Exeter meanwhile, were unlucky not to get a point on the hallowed turf of Elland Road last week and seem to go from strength to strength. For these reasons, the price of 15/8 with Coral for Exeter is enormous and I'm willing to break from my early season cautious strategy(which let's face it didn't serve me too well last week) to make it this columns only bet this week.

So, as stated the bet this week is

Exeter- 15/8(Coral)

Profit  -£3

Not a great start to the season for this column but plenty of time to turn it round. It's still too early to be going mad and sticking the mortgage on anything and after an unsuccessful break from the tried & tested formula of betting on the blindingly obvious early season, let's go back to that tactic.

Charlton haven't put a foot wrong so far this season and there's no reason to believe they won't continue their 100% record today against Walsall. Their second home game of the season and whilst the first game against Wycombe was a little hairy for them(Charlton twice clearing off the line and were in danger of throwing away a 2 goal lead in the second half), They seem to have learned from their mistakes and will know that complacency is not an option. 4/6 with Totesport, Coral and William Hill.

As I can't emphasise enough I only bet when there's something worth betting on and that is the only game I recomend betting on this week. The other game I was going to recommend for a bet(Queens Park vs Albion) has been called off due to a U2 gig(you don't see that every day now do you).

So the bet this week is

Charlton   4/6(Totesport, Coral & Hills)

Until next week folks.

Profit   -£3.33

Finally a winner for this column. All be it at 4/6 but we can go on from here I'm sure.

It's fair to say the Wycombe are a better team than their league position suggests but that is when they're at full strength. They are certainly not anywhere near that at the moment. Bristol Rovers are a quality side and, bar a slip up against Leyton Orient who can be a tricky team to play against, haven't put a foot wrong in the league so far. That slip up was at home as well. We're still early in the season so not much emphasis can be placed on this yet but it's worth noting that Rovers have a 100% away record so far this season and are unbeaten away with almost a 100% record if you include pre season friendlies as well. 8/5 with Coral is a very generous price when taking all this into account.

In League2, not as much of a solid bet but still worth it at the price is Cheltenham to beat Darlington. Darlington have not got a single point yet and whilst a lot of the time they haven't lost by much, they have still lost at the end of the day. When a team goes on a losing run it's sometimes hard to get out of it. Especially when you're playing a team recently relegated and used to playing at a higher level. 6/4 with Betfred, Ladbrokes & Coral is a fair price on a Cheltenham win. Not one for the mortgage mind.

I have started looking at the Scottish leagues again after the chaos of the early season but nothing takes my fancy up there today.

Bets this week are

Bristol Rovers- 8/5(Coral)
Cheltenham   - 6/4(Betfred, Coral and Ladbrokes)

Happy punting folks

Profit -£5.33

Apologies for no column last week. I was getting myself sorted out for a wedding. Believe me I take a lot of sorting out!

Anyway, not a great start to the season and it better get soon as my betting account is getting on the low side.

I've already got myself into trouble by backing Bristol Rovers this seasn but will give them a chance to redeem themselves today, They are fully fit, they are at home, they are playing an Oldham side with several injuries and who are not having a great start t the season. This should be a no brainer for the side who are already showing their class this season. 5/6 with Ladbrokes is a solid bet.

The seasons first bet in Bonny Scotland for this column is the match between Peterhead and East Fife. The Blue Toon have had a pretty shaky start to the season but they will be looking to steady the ship and push for promotion. They have a fully fit squad and are in prime position to kick start their season when they host East Fife. At this early stage in the season, they are in a false position, 23/20 with Hills is a great bet.

Please let's have a couple of winners today

Bets are;

Bristol Rovers- 5/6(Ladbrokes)
Peterhead      - 23/20(Hills)

Happy punting folks...

Profit   -£7.33

Only one bet this week. It remains to be seen the impact Mark Robins departure has had on Morcambe but if their last match is anything to go by(a 0-0 draw at home to Rotherham) then it could have affected than some would imagine. They still have no manager. For this reason, I think Cheltenham are a great bet to get a home win against them even with a couple of important players out through injury. The vibes coming out of the Cheltenham camp are very positive and they seem a very happy and united team. Rotherham on the other hand, while not exactly in crisis, have been shaken up by the Robins saga. Take the 15/8 for this columns only bet of the day!

Bet today is;

Cheltenham- 15/8(Bet365)

Happy punting folks

Colchester seem unstoppable at home having one loss to my beloved Leeds and having destroyed Charlton's unbeaten record last time out. Huddersfield on the other hand are have not been playing too well the last few games and have only won away once in the league this season. All be it that win was against MK Dons but still, the away form of Huddersfield is pretty poor. So far this season, this column has followed form and value without a lot of success, However, I haven't abandoned the strategy yet and am confident it will come good in the end. Colchesterare the form pick. at 5/4 with Ladbrokes, they also represent value. Get on!

Todays bet is;

Colchester- 5/4- Ladbrokes

Until next week folks

A much needed win last week but let's not get too excited. This column is still in trouble and I don't intend to do anything silly or take any risks, as far as you can take no risks while gambling of course. I will only be having one bet today and it is on a World Cup Qualifier.

Slovakia have a comparitively decent home record. Slovenia also have a pretty good home record it has to be said, but they are the away team and that's a different story! In the last 8 Qualifying away games, Slovenia have won one, drawn 3, and lost 4. Their win was an unconvincing 2-1 win over Moldova. They did admittedly get a draw against Belarus and that's a hard place to go & get a result of any kind but apart from that, their away form is poor. Compare this with Slovakia's impressive home form and you have a clear favourite to win this match! The bookies think so as well mind you and the best price you can get is 5/4 with Bet365 but this is awesome value and should be snapped up!

Only bet this week is;

Slovakia- 5/4(Bet365)

Until next week folks...

In the Scottish seconfd division, Stirling face Clyde. This is a no brainer really! Top plays host to bottom and even though Stirling have a couple of players out and a manager who's future is uncertain, they should have the class to beat Clyde who's manager has a touchline ban(which obviously won't help their cause). Bet365 go 8/13 on Stirling. This should be snapped up!

The aim of this column is to make a profit over the long term and clearly this season I have been failing. Putting bets on for the hell of it is a sure fire way of failing in this mission which is why I make no apologies for only one, obvious bet this week

Bet is;

Stirling- 8/13(Bet365)

Until next week folks...

Profit -£9.08

Apologies once more for no article last week.

Millwall have a fantastic home record and Wycombe are dreadful this season. This really is a no brainer for anyone who knows the slightest thing about League 1. Given the appaling start to the season this column has had, I don't think the 5/11 best odds offered on Millwall will make much of a dent in the loss. Therefore I am going to break the mould of this particular column and bet on the handicap as I fully expect The Lions to win this comfortably. 15/4 on Millwall to win with a -2 Handicap is available with Boylesports but I'm not quite that confident so I advise the 5/4 Skybet are offering with a -1 handicap. This is the only bet this week.

Bet is

Millwall(-1)- 5/4(Skybet)

Until next week folks

A disastrous punting season this is turning out to be but we must be British about these things. Stiff upper lip, carry on regardless & all that!!

Anyway, the bet this week is north of the border in the Scottish Division 2. There is a major injury crisis going on at Arbroath with 4 defenders and one striker definitely out. On top of this there are serious doubts about 6 others. There are sometimes in lower league football betting where you have to ignore the table. I would say this is one of them but it isn't. Even if Arbroath were fully fit they are second from bottom and going nowhere fast this season. Stirling Albion meanwhile, are second in the league. The Mighty Blue Brazil are only ahead on goal difference and both teams have a game in hand over third place Alloa. This is a very, very good bet whichever way you look at it! This is a Gold Bet! Haven't been many of them this season! As a great man once said, open your wallets and bet like men!

Gold Bet

Stirling Albion- 8/11(Ladbrokes and Stan James)
