After being egged on by TGS i thought i would start a thread for this, bit early for any reviews hope to do something in a week, but i do fancy Goldikova very strongly for the Mile and backed accordingly at 6/1, plenty to look forward to including the potential for Curlin/Big Brown/HTN/The Duke all meeting in the Classic and another potential star in Zenyatta if running in the Ladies classic looking a banker bet...

all thoughts welcome.

I must admit I don't have any strong opinions yet, but I'm quite interested in peoples opinions on the Santa Anita track, I'm wondering if it will really suit the turf horses more than dirt as seems to be the word going around ?

I'm being dopey, no pun intended, but is the Santa Anita now some type of poly?

Anyhow, I have the Classic between the big US two with Curlin my pick at the mo.  As GS says early, but it's never too early is it

It's called pro-ride, here are the stats/description :-

Apparently it went down well in the Breeders Cup trails the other weekend.

They recently replaced the previous cushion track due to drainage issues, the turf course is described as a hillside course that crosses the synthetic course, I wouldnt know if it is more favourable but I know a man who does when he gets back from Paris.

I thought it was the surface developed by Michael Dickinson - "Cushiontrack" I think? But I'm clearly wrong on that one!- whichever one it is, it is nearest to our polytrack.

Hmmm.  Thanks for the link GS.  Poly still favours certain attributes in a horse over here IMVHO!  But this looks state of the art so I guess it is fair for all.  I will remain to be convinced that the Danehill's will like it though!  If it is true that if favours the turf lot then that will be against Curlin I guess

That is "Tapeta" I think.  I won't inform our resident linguist what that means though

That's why Curlins connections were undecided whether to run him or not. Apparently it'll suit Big Brown more.

As I say I'm quite open minded about it, I don't know too much about this surface I think this is the only course that uses this type of poly track.

TBH, provided we don't get the brutal slop that we had at that awful track last year I will be satisfied.

It will take a lot to erase the memory of poor GW and that Noseda filly we've not seen since, Simply Perfect I think?

Anyhow, Red Rocks to successfully defend his Turf title and Sixties Icon to prevail in the Marathon.

I always take a partisan approach to proceedings, which works quite well, apart from having I N T E R C O N T I N E N T A L  tattooed across my forehead

course has a slight right hand turn and then goes  downhill some 60 feet while curving back left-prior to stretch horses cross over a small patch of dirt

Compo on ATR is adamant that he will go to Japan and wont run in the classic.

I also think that Ravens Pass is a stone bonking certainty and will be backing Rainbow View for decent money on the day as i can see the americans steaming into Stardom Bound and underestimating just how good she really is.Johnny Gosden will have planned this for ages on his return to California. He knows whats required to win these races.

Curlin or Big Brown ?

IMO Curlin is a bit of a dodgy bet for the classic, purely because we don't know how well he'll adapt to the surface.

I'll probably have a bet in the classic but I'll wait for the day.

Really depends what race Ravens Pass turns up in, if it's the mile then he has only to beat Goldikova, if it's the Classic then I'm not sure I'd back him with stolen money knowing the european record in that race

I'm swerving backing Rainbow View in the juvenille I've heard there are some very good 2yo US fillies that are going to line up against her, you'll get a decent price on Rainbow View if they all turn up.
