Hi all, any questions about an article please post here. The only problem is some article writers are not online everyday, so you may have to wait for a reply, unless you use the PM system.

Regards......Alan

Not.

Same applies to horses if the expression "flapping track" is used about horse racing. More common in Ireland than here.

Fine detail I leave to the greyhound experts!

Archie a flapping track is one that is not registered by the NGRC. Mostly they are in the North of England, Scotland and Ireland. Most dogs tend to be trained by the owner, often from home. Dogs dont need a passbook as they do under NGRC rules. The NGRC ( National Greyhound Racing Club ) wont allow dogs registered with them to run at flapping tracks.

That said, some of the better flapping tacks have an on course vet and some good racing from what i can gather.

Regards.....Alan

Evening Archie

Down here in Kent,Sittingbourne Greyhound Stadium use traps designed for eight dog races however as far as i know they only have six dog races these days...

Now if you want to see some 8 dog races pop down to your local Coral Bookies any week day morning and you can enjoy greyhound racing from Australia!

Hi Alan

Yep remember these....Used to be three or four eight dog races on each Monmore BAGS card.

I would say they were stopped seven or eight years ago now.

Also have you noticed theres much lesser Handicap races at BAGS meetings these days?

Adding to that its always the northern tracks that seem to stage them.

Yes he is. I had a bit of an argument (entirely friendly) with him a while ago about veterinary cover for dogs at flapping tracks. He runs his dog/dogs at these tracks, I understand.

hello Rochersterlad
maney thanks for your reply but i think i would rather stay cuddled up in bed thanks
i dont follow either dog or horse racing but ive always thought that punters would have a better chance of winning following dogs in that theres only 6 to choose from.cheers.archie

hello alansouthcoast and hello westmeadhawk
probably a daft question to ask but why do the dog handlers/owners/managment or who ever parade the dogs just before the race with there coats on????
just thinking wouldnt it be much better for race goers to see the dogs without there coats on maybe to get a better idea of how the dog is under there coats is the dog fully wound up etc.cheers.archie

Archie its for the same reason athletes keep their track suit on until the last minute. Is to keep the dog warm in winter and cool in summer.
