whenever Peter ("Lord") Mandelson gets on the attack you kow that there is a problem.
aAndrew MArr asked the PM for his cmments on a rumoutr (amainly internet led) that he was losing the remaining sight in his eye and was also taking prescription anti-depressants.
This of us who saw the interiew may have thought GB dealt with the question well and fairly.
However the unelected and effective deputy PM has stck his oar in calling it disgraceful that he was asked (presumably he thinks the health of the PM is not relevant to voters?) the question and called it a 2far right wing plot".
I think if Mandelson is getting shirty about this it is because
[a] he in fact knows that there is something going on and
[b] won't be happy if the stpry drops because
[c] he would be the person to lead the party into the next election if GB had to stand down on "health grounds" (whatever the real reason was)
The idea of the labour party being the first party since the Tory party of 1895 (Lord Salisury) to go into an election with a putative PM who was not an elected member of parliament may cause an eyebrow or wo to be raised. I would not rule it out if I was you.
