KP has had an op on his troubled achilles and will be out for at least 6 weeks.

Quote:
"I hate missing matches for England and especially during an Ashes summer."

"Up until now the Achilles injury has been manageable but it recently reached the point where we needed to look at other options in terms of treatment.

"I was pleased with the previous course of treatment as it allowed me to take part in this Ashes series but unfortunately the injury has recently deteriorated.

"To leave a winning dressing-room at this time is heartbreaking but it wouldn't be fair to the team or myself to continue given the severity of the injury.

"I'll be supporting the team closely and wish them the best of luck as they look to build on the brilliant win at Lord's and reclaim the Ashes."

No loss, my opinion....Hasn't delivered lately and is far too up his own backside. Will have a think about who would come in to replace him. Young, skilful and hungry for fame and centuries would be good....

It will be Bell, so save your brain power.

Personally I'd have more sympathy if he hadn't started whining during the winter tour about missing home/being tired and then gone straight to the IPL.

I don't know, averaged 38 so far this series even with silly dismissals and not getting going - would have fancied him to get a couple of decent knocks in the remaining tests.

I'd bring back Ian Bell, used to Edgbaston and hopefully being dropped will have spurred him on...

Fair comment, Millsy. When he's on form he is magisterial with the bat, but attitude is and has been a problem.

Looks like the vote is for Bell - but I have a sneaking feeling Robert Key (don't laugh) may be in consideration.

No clue at all, LS - just the (dubious) cachet of having played for England (Ladies) once, in India!

But I did get a cap!

I think Pietersen will be a big miss. He's a bit like Flintoff to the Australians, he's feared for his batting just like Flintoff is for his bowling. The Australian bowlers dont like bowling to him cos they know when he's in form he'll smash you all over the place. Its going to give them a massive lift in my opinion. Bell is a good replacement, but is very hit and miss at International level.

if it is Bell to replace KP
anyone think it best if Bell plays at 3 and drop bopara down to 4
no real reason for why
cheers archie.

The only flaw in your statement is as highlighted. He's injured so no threat thus far.

Let's hope the selector gets it right.

I think they will. Takes a bit of the heat off Bopara and Bell is a more natural player to face a newish ball

I think a first choice England has KP in currently, however, if Bell is next in line then the decision is well timed as he'll be playing the test on his home ground.

If he fails then you have to question if he should be in the side and decide what alternative England have.

He should of had the op before the series rather than play in the IPL. Who ever gave him any advise got it wrong!

Maybe the carrott of earning over a Million$ was too much for him to ignore! Surely the Ashes series would of been more important to him!

The injury has affected his batting & even he admitted that!

He has been a key part of the batting line up & when on song has scored a hatfull of runs.

He'll only be missed if ever who replaces him fails! If who ever comes in does really well it might give the selectors a bit of thinking too do!

Most likely to be Bell as he Captained an England squad in a warm up match against the Aussies a few weeks ago!
