Remember her?

She won the girls title at Wimbledon this year.
She has just beaten the 128 player in the world and is now professional at the age of 14!

Good luck to her & lets hope she can get into the top 100 along with Keothavong.

I read she turned professional she's definately an exciting prospect for the future. You wouldn't think she'd have the power to compete with the big girls at her age.

I am against players, particularly girls, turning pro so young. Look what happened to Tracey Austin and ?? (the young player - again female - who was found doing drugs, I think). It puts their durability in question. OK, they may have low-key campaigns in the first years, but there will always be the temptation to over-do; it's called money.

I agree with Jenny.

14 is very young to be turning pro.

I know females tend to peak earlier in the sporting world and usually have there best years at a younger age but even so 14 is still too young in my opinion.

I think its healthy at such a young age to still be able to have some childhood/teenage years of relative normality.

17 ish would imo be more the appropiate age to be going full time pro imo.

Is this the girl that invited Marat Safin to the winners ball?  She has good taste but it's a taste for trouble.  I hope she'll be OK but you have to be worried about a girl of 14 on tour.  I hope she's got someone keeping an good eye on her.

What sort of age are the other girls on the tour?  Aren't they 17/18??  Not old but loads older than her!

Anything from 17/18 to 40-odd (and in Martina's case 50+!) assuming its the senior pro tour. As far as I know there is no minimum age; it's done entirely on performance - but I'm open to correction on that. I did think that the International Federation had brought in rules preventing very young players (and I count 14 as very young) joining the senior pro tour - but again I might be wrong.

I am slightly more worried about the reported shoulder injury than her picking out Marat Safin as a partner - but only slightly! Too many of these very promising youngsters burn out both physically and mentally.

It is a worry for sure, Austin, Jaeger and Capriati all burned out, injured and struggled to cope with all the pressures.

It is far too young to go on tour in my view.  One of the best British females we had for some time in Annabel Croft quit the game purely because of not being able to cope with like on tour and at 14 Laura will be under even more media pressures too because of her Wimbledon success.  She needs a great team round her and I hope she does well as abviously has some talent but it will be really tough at her age for all sorts of reasons.

How very fitting!

I'm sure she and her wealthy Australian parents are delighted!

This is worse than not liking Murray cos if his England joke. I hope no-one wins a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics otherwise they'll be the most hated people in the country

It doesn't mention dislike for her.

She is just a kid playing tennis, but its a typical representation of 'British tennis', which IMO is laughable.

It's elitist and how anyone can be shocked we haven't produced a champion in the last 30 years amazes me.

Its hardly ever taught properly in non-private schools, local facilities are either poor standard or over priced.

I do wish her all the luck as an individual, but as far as success is concerned, any for 'British tennis' would cloud a problem within the sport.
