If you reply to this poll, please add a post in which, if you answer yes, you state (a) how much initial capital (non-returnable) you are willing to put in and (b) what is your maximum possible monthly contribution.
As a guide, intial capital cost per person could be anything from say £500 - £1,000 (it depends on how many people want to join; the more people the less investment)
As a guide, monthly payments could be in the range of £50-£200 (again, the more people in the group the less it would cost)
Please remember that this is likely to be a long-term commitment - minimum 4 years. _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!
I have already stated previously that I would be interested in this project _________________ Keep your words soft and sweet - you may have to eat them one day
I love the idea of it and would be happy to sit in the background and let others decide on name/trainer etc. I would only pipe up if I had a strong feeling about something but the problem may be cash. If you could keep me in mind I would be grateful. If the cost isn't massive I would love to be part of a syndicate but if it is too much I will reluctantly have to say no. I guess what I am trying to say is if there are plenty interested and a definite figure was know I could then give you an answer but i dont want to say yes now and let eveyone down.
Fair enough, Newseeker! The more people we get in, the less they will have to pay. I think the cut-off (minimum numbers interested and prepared to invest/contribute) is probably about 10 - but if more join (up to say 20, because if more the management of the group will become too complicated), then costs per head will obviously be less.
I also think, and obviously am open to views and ideas, that the initial non-returnable payment should be the same for everyone, if that's at all possible (so that we all feel we have an equal share in the decision-making). So 10 contribtuing £1,000 each would raise £10,000, which would buy something reasonably decent, I think. If 20, then the payment drops to £500 per head, and so on. _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!
Something that I would like to do one day but I am hoping to buy my first house in the next year so luxuries like racehorses are sadly not on the agenda right now!
It would be great to have a 'board horse' that we could all get behind though. I really hope that you get enough people together to do it.
Provisionally Yes to the figures quoted, BUT I won't know what my longterm financial situation (ie respectable, employed tax-payer or full-time, dirt-poor student scum) will be for several months.
If I stay in the country and continue on my present salary I'd be in. I also wouldn't mind doing some of the admin stuff if necessary- that way I could re-register the nag's name as I Love Orlando Bloom before any of you could do anything about it...
Ok folks, Kim Bailey has just returned my E mail and this is what he has to say

Going by this i would have thought that to make it a more comfortable amount we would need at least 20 or more
At least it gives us all something to think about
I have also mailed Tom George this morning, so hope his response is as quick as Baileys.
Tom George just got back to me, they are prompt these trainers
Thank you for your email. To follow are my training costs.
As regard to the costs of a horse, obviously it would be very hard to say as you can spend as little or as much as you like depending on how much you wish to invest. I have got various unraced and raced horses for sale. On the whole they are priced from £10,000 upwards. However, it is not an impossibility to have sucess with a cheaper horse!
If you would like to take the matter any further, I suggest that you give me a call to arrange a time to come and look at the yard, have a chat and see if you would be interested.
Kind regards,
Tom George

I had sent him an email also asking after Balthazaar's Gift who has only been in his care for a little over a week, just got a lovely reply. He has settled in well and came out of his Newbury race in fine form.
Also i asked him about 'Satchelman' who he owns and trains as i saw him for sale in the DBS sales catalogue to which i am going to in August. Not sure if you guys and ladies are interested in him to buy? although he just said the reserve price on him is big ( i backed him on his first and last time out in June which he won).
Anyway, what a lovely email and i have the option to meet up with him at the sales, because i asked for some buying tips, how nice is that!

GP, is Satchelman Flat or NH? If there's a big reserve on him he's probably out of our league, if we ever manage to get one going! And Flat or NH is an issue we still have to address.
Jej, interesting figures, thanks for that. I'll do some sums and let people know roughly how much per week for 10-20 members. I will obviously factor in a decent number of runs during the season (let's say 6 just for an example) and a decent though not excessive travel budget, which does, as I thought, bump up the costs. You'd have to work it on let's say a 200-mile round trip (which is generous if the horse can be placed readily at local courses, but this is not always possible. I remember Peter Bowen, who trains not far from me in West Wales, saying that the travel costs were hurting people at the moment, and diesel is not coming down in price!).
