I've only ever done horse racing comps so if this all goes wrong - Sorry!!

A competition in three parts.
    1. Name the country who will get most medals in the olympics

    2. Name the four other countries that will make up the top five countries in ths medals table

    3. How many medals will the country with most medals get?

Scores
    Correct top country = 50

Correct top five = 25 each - If your top country gets in the top 5 but not to the very top you'll get 25 points for that too

Medals score correct = 0 points!!
But as an example if your guess is 10 medals out you'll have 10 points deducted from your score

Gold, silver and bronze medals all count

Entries need to be posted before the Opening Ceremony - Friday 12.45pm

Good Luck!

1. No idea! Thousands!! That's what Googles for!!

2.  If you guessed 190 medals and the top country won 195 medals your points total will be reduced by 5 points.  Any clearer??  I don't know how else to explain it

The results for the past two olympics seem quite consistent for four of the top five countries. I'll go for :-

United States - 99 medals
China
Russia
Australia
Japan

OK you need to take a little care here because the official medal table puts you in order of Golds won, not medals won

(eg in Athens China were second in the medals table ahead of russia, although Russia won more medals - China 32 Gold 63 total, second; Russia 92 total but third because "only" 27 Gold - Norway finished 16th in the official table with 5 golds, but only got 6 i total which wold have put them about 45th on total medals]

So... assuming we are looking at TOTAL MEDALS

Top 5

1 China  top country - 110 medals
2 USA
3 Russia
4 Australia
5 Japan

just a question... if we get the number of medals right but for the wrtong ocuntry [eg if russia were top with 110] would i get the points for number of medals ?

FallonFacta is at work and doesnt get on much during the day. One of us will try and sort this out before the day is over though.

Anyhow, we have four years before the next competiton, so there is hardly a rush chaps.....

Pah! Not good enough! In this day of instant results it should of been possible to declare it as soon as the last runner passed the post during the Marathon!   (Yes I know some Mickey Mouse event was the last event of the Games but didn't make difference in the end!).

If I sit here waiting four years for the result they will have to brush the cobwebs off me after awhile!
