Posted: Tue Oct 10, 2006 10:25 am Post subject: PADDY POWER MEETING 11 NOVEMBER
I have decided to make one last attempt to set up a meeting of people interesting in taking shares in the proposed syndicate.
Quite a lot of you will already have received the papers I have prepared (via email). For those who have not - it is probably because I don't have your email address. Would anyone wanting the papers in addition to those already emailed, PLEASE PM ME YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS.
The experience at Fontwell showed that it is impossible (a) to hold a meeting during racing and (b) to hold a meeting after racing because lots of people are diving for trains/buses/the car park. So the only sensible idea, when people will be prepared to PAY ATTENTION :ohno: (!) is beforehand.
We don't want to go to the expense of hiring a room, and I suspect that anyway all of them are already booked up. It is not practical to meet in town.
So I SUGGEST that we all meet AT LEAST ONE AND A HALF HOURS BEFORE RACING, IF POSSIBLE, in the Istabraq bar on Level 1 of the Centaur. I will get there early to bag some chairs etc. Please bring your papers with you (I will also bring spares for those who don't have or have lost/mislaid), and be ready with your questions comments. I will post an agenda (there's posh!) before the day.
I will also pm my mobile number to confirmed attendees - that way, if anyone gets lost or mislaid (including me!) we can do something about it!!
Please post whether you are going to attend the meeting.
Thanks

Jenny, It is not possible for Toast or myself to attend. We have already committed to going to Newbury for the 3 day Henessey meeting later in November.
One thing that came to mind was the recent increase in new members to the board. Perhaps it is worth while having a thread in the horse racing section looking for potential interested parties. You never know there maybe a few that hasn`t looked in the Racehorse Ownership section.
One other thing is that if you`ve got 28/42 of an uptake, We could offer the other 14/42 to the trainer ???? That would mean the syndicate would have a majority
I hope the others show more interest this time and your time is not wasted. Like Toast, I congratulate you on the super work you have produced so far. Lets hope we all get the end result we are looking for.
Just for interest sake. How many do you think commited to the cause at the Fontwell meeting ??? Or did you not get that far ????? They all seem a bunch of nice people and I could see us all in the winners enclosure @ Cheltenham ONE DAY .
Rapid .. Just tell the wife that there is roadworks on the M6 so you have to set off earlier for Newbury... you can nip to Cheltenham on the way through then Sorry we wont see you & toaster this time.. As you say.. One day mate....
Auntie Jen .. I would like to echo Rapid/Toast's thanks on the super job you have done for the syndicate....
PS Rapid..When are you off to Disney...
cheers

Next Wednesday. I`ve told Jnr IF he is good all this week and collects 5 gold stars (one for each day) I`ll not take them on a racing holiday we`ll go somewhere else
First I must go and see the Doc. I`ve had bother with my stomach and I think i`ve got that "stomach bug". BUGGER !!!
I hope you and Jenny can rally the troops at Chelters. I spoke to Toastie this morning and mentioned a flying visit to the meeting, but he has the dentist on the Friday and a wedding (not his own ) on the Saturday
90% certain to be there on the 11th. If anything change will let you know, otherwise see you there. Should be able to make it a decent time, and will also probably be staying the night somewhere.
Jenny, can you explain how I use the "pm" function or direct me to the instructions, thanks
Yes, pm = Private Message. At the top of the forum page, under the black headline forum.sports-pro etc you will see a list of topics (FAQ, Search, Memberlist ect). Click on "You have no new messages". This should bring up the pm system.
There will be an address box ("To.....) - in this case jennywales. And there will be a box like the one for forum posts. Put your message there and click "submit" - that should get to me.
I know it's not always easy to follow instructions, so if you still have difficulties, maybe someone else could explain more clearly.
Expect I'll hear from you soon! _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!
after someone has posted underneath their post will be a couple of headings, profile and PM click the pm and it will automatically be ready to send to that person
I am sorry to have to say this, but as you know my work involves me going abroad for periods of time.
I have now been offered a job (which I cannot afford to turn down) which will run over the period of the Paddy Power. I did try to negotiate it ("I have an important meeting to go to....") but no good, I'm afraid.
There are two alternatives - either someone volunteers to hold the meeting anyway (pretty much everything has been set up, including the papers sent to all - please pm me with your email address if you haven't got them and would like them, Istabraq bar in the Centaur 1 and a half hours before racing, questions and comments to be noted and passed on to me).
Or we can reschedule for when I am sure to be in the country - which will probably mean late January and time is going on.
As I know at least one potential member has made special arrangements to be there, it would be nice if someone felt able to volunteer to "take the chair" in my absence. Which is also why, disregarding any current meeting arrangements it would be great to have a volunteer to be admin alongside me, just exactly for this sort of situation.
Once again I apologise, but I'm afraid it cannot be helped and is in the nature of what I do! _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!
OK, on the Horse Racing forum there is a thread on a meet-up at the Paddy Power (11 November). As above, I cannot be there.
Will anyone still interested in ownership, and either going to the Paddy Power or intending to, please post HERE if you have not done so already! And read the first post on this thread, about the meeting, location, timing and so on. All potential members who have sent me their email addresses will have got a copy of the papers - if you have not received then please pm me before Thursday. There are several potential members who have already indicated they cannot attend - that is fine, as long as they are happy to have a report of the meeting and an opportunity to put their points of view across if they feel the need to.
BUT, if the meeting is to take place, then someone other than me will have to run it and take notes of what is said (especially questions and concerns) and then relay them to me. I don't think I will be back in UK and available to do more work on this until 20 November at the earliest.
But I am afraid that things are looking a bit tricky, since for a variety of reasons we have lost at least four potential syndicate members. We were looking for take-up of 12 more shares, but that has now risen to at least 16 because of people dropping out. So unless we can muster more take-up of shares and preferably by new members to spread the load, this idea, great as it is, is heading for the BIN!
Actually, if this is what happens, then very little will have been lost - we will have learned a lot about owning a racehorse, how the racing industry works, the economics of training and all the considerations that go into running a syndicate (indeed, a second/third career opens up before me!)
So if you are still interested, and can make the Paddy Power (11 November, Tatts/Centaur, Istabraq Bar hour and a half before 1st race) POST HERE!!
