Now Setanta has gone, RacingUK are to carry on as a standalone channel at a cost of £20 a month, this includes access to the on-line subscription, usually 9.99.
Now ESPN have got the Premier League, they are to launch a new channel on Sky, the cost is yet to be mentioned, but I reckon at least £10-£15 a month.
So we lose Setanta 1, 2, News, Golf, NASN, LFC, Arse TV, Rangers, Celtic etc and if we want to keep RUK and get ESPN it will cost us circa 3 times what Setanta did at £12.99 (even though I dont think I paid full price for the 18 months I have had it).
Not great news!

I cancelled my subscription a couple of weeks ago. Wasn't watching it enough....even with the rest of the Setanta package thrown in.
I wonder what business plan they have set the £20 a month against. There are currently 55,000 subscribers, and you would have to assume that a fair number of those will not renew.
What racing needs is for both ATR and racing UK to go off air for a couple of months, then we might see a bit of action from the whingers at Ladbrokes, Hills, Corals etc
when the original Attheraces went under that mob were screaming blue murder as there telephone betting business collapsed over night. No live racing = no punters keen to stick bets on.
Betfairs business would also crash.
No racing on tv means lower turnover for these firms yet they continue to milk the system.
£20's not that bad compared to £30 for the RP!! _________________ Cocktails may not be the answer.... but they help you forget the question Vodka... Cheaper than B otox and paralyses more muscles!
Does anyone know what's happening with this? We haven't had any information since Setanta went under but we're still receiving Racing Uk and as far as I'm aware not paying for it!
Just wish they would sack Lydia "keep forgetting I'm just a journalist and actually believe people give a s**t what I think" Hislop and Eddie `snobby awkward git' Freemantle.
Agree that Freemantle and Graham Cunningham are pointless. Mellish needs to relax a bit as well, and not say everything he can think of saying all in one sentence.
Other than that, it is probably the best channel on tv imo _________________ Is ready to hibernate
Typical Hislop. Zacinto is her lay today ................... but no acknowledgement of the fact that as usual her unwanted opinion is wrong. She is there to present and should stick to asking questions of the likes of Steve Mellish and Graham Cunningham who do know their stuff and do have things of interest to say.
She's a great gal and I for one enjoy her input, she's 10-fold better than every numpty the BBC have working for them. Lydia Hislop and Richie 'no clue, hang on, I thought it was Thursday?' pa whatever his ungodly name is, no match. She's pretty, informative, and well spoken. _________________ 2009 BCT Winner - Conduit

Hi Becky
Spoke to a very helpful bloke from Virgin and found out that all customers with the XL package will continue to get RUK at no extra cost.
And as far as he`s aware there`s no plans for any change in the near future.
Racing UK, the horseracing channel forced to relaunch as free-to-air after the demise of its partner Setanta, will become pay-only again from 16 August – annual subscribers who lost out when the Irish pay-TV operator collapsed will get free access.
Racing UK teamed up with the Irish sports broadcaster in 2006 to offer a combined package of pay sports channels. When Setanta's UK business went into administration on 23 June Racing UK was forced to become a standalone channel again.
Since then, Racing UK has been broadcasting unencrypted as a free-to-air channel on Sky channel 432. From 10 August the company will begin taking UK subscriptions again with free-to-air coverage to be switched off on 16 August.
Racing UK said that as a "goodwill gesture" customers who had an annual subscription with Setanta - who in effect lost money when the pay TV company went out of business - will get the horseracing channel free until their next renewal date is due.
Racing UK had previously said that its subscription charges would revert to its 2004 launch price of £20 a month, but today sweetened the deal by throwing in online TV access, which is normally £9.99 per month.
The broadcaster said that it is in advanced talks with Virgin Media about continuing to supply a premium channel on its cable TV service. _________________ its only money and you can"t take it with you
I get annoyed with RUK for the fact that although it is good that they show replays of the races I don't want to see them inbetween races during the afternoon or evening meetings, the same applys to there momory lane replays show them when the current meeting is not taking place.
I would much rather have the 20 minutes between the races when they have only one meeting like this afternoon trying to get Interviews off trainers, owners & Jockeys a bit like ATR do.
I also too cannot stand that Hislop woman i either turn over or turn the sound down anytime she opens her mouth as not only is her voice irritating she knows absolutly nothing about horse racing. Other than her most of the other presenters are fine.
ATR have Matt Chapman and no one can compete with him
