Just been told that my job may be 'at risk' of redundancy, which pretty much means it's a goner.

Just what I need with a 2 month old.

Not lookign forward to going home, and telling the wife (who has stopped working).

Very tough break! Are you sure or is there any chance it's just scare tactics? I'll keep my fingers crossed. Don't mean to be nosy but are you a skilled worker? Would it be easy to find another similar job?

Sorry to hear that, I was made redundant in March for the 2nd time in a year. A job I went for the other day about 2 days later had to lay off 19 people out of the blue, including the woman who interviewed me.

Do you work in the finance/mortages area?

I thought I had skills to pay the bills......

Plenty of need for investment analysts.....if I move to London.

Will you take the plunge and move. I never wanted to move to Dublin but basically had to at the time but it's the best thing I ever did so it mightn't be too bad to move.

Really sorry to hear that Darren. I really hope everything works out ok for you. We had a lot of redundancies at the place were I work last year and it was a very difficult time.

How long have you been in the job?

Trawl the net, check out the job sections of the papers, get in now mate before anyone else does, you need to hit the ground running just in case.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear that things don't look so good. Agree with Johnnio that it's best to be prepared and keep a lookout now rather than wait until the time comes and then start looking. I think there's a lot of truth in employers being interested more in those who are looking who are not out of work.

5 and a bit years, straight from uni.

As for taking the plunge and moving to London, its a bit more difficult when there's 3 of you.

What sort of redundancy package will you get? Is your company good in that way?

My first redundancy was by Abbey, and it was shoddy to say the least. I highly recommend never to work for them.

Whereas I had been in the job less time at my 2nd for SPML, and they were brilliant.

I know but it's not like moving to the other end of the world. Plus your wife is not working so she wouldn't have to give up a job. I mean you should find work easy enough there but I suppose it'll involve selling up so I can understand why you're hesitant about it.

I suppose only you can make the decision.

Good luck to you anyway mate, hope it all works out

No idea yet, it is only 'at risk' at the moment, so officially there is no offer.

Its a minimum of 2 weeks per year worked though.....10 weeks then.

That's why I asked how long you'd worked there. If the worse case scenario happens at least you'll have a redundancy payment that will keep you going until you can at least find something else.

Think of it like this, you've got a beautiful wife and daughter and they will always be there for you no matter what happens.

Wishing you all the best anyway.
