It looks as though £1 a litre for fuel is soon to become the norm but to make things worse Minsisters are set to introduce road tolls across the UK

Motorists would be charged on a pay as you go basis, with black boxes in their cars recording how far they had driven on stretches of toll road.

Discuss...

My personal opinion is that they should scrap the road tax Disc and just increase fuel prices, That way your just paying when you use your car...

Golfswing,

A truly sensible idea, one which i've thought that should have been done years ago. Scrapping road tax and lumping it on fuel is a) more equitable as it taxes more heavily those that use the roads more, b) is unavoidable - the amount of un-taxed cars on our roads is appalling c) will also generate more income from those with cars registered overseas as they don't pay road tax. A much more sensible approach.

Motorway service stations are the worst culprits!! They charge about 10p a litre more than anyone else! Their food and drink prices are extortionate too!!

Andy .. They won't implement it because it IS Sensible...and you are right in saying it would stop those Ba*tard tax dodgers.

Rochester ... Motorway services always have ripped you off both in fuel and what is loosely termed as food...I would rather bite my hand off then pay there rip off prices.... Years ago (back in the 70's) I broke down in a service area and the AA said they were not allowed to come out to me because the service area was classed as being private so I rolled down to the approach road back on to the motorway and then they attended to me. (How crazy is that) nowadays I think they do attend to you in the service area, I just use service areas for a Pee stop and stretch the legs...

Jo .. All that achieves is people filling up for no sane reason and it just brings shortages.... I reckon the high prices are here to stay and BP, ESSO, & SHELL etc will continue to , us big time just like the Water Authorities. Local council taxes, Gas and Electricity suppliers etc.... Where I live we don't suffer with the drought just now but Severn Trent are the biggest culprits regards leaks, I personally would flaunt any ban they imposed due to the fact they don't seem to give a toss.... Thats what you get when you privatise utilities to a bunch of nobbers who are just interested in share holder profits (FACT).

There's absolutely no better advert for petrol than when people threaten to strike. People queue for hours to fill up, and profits go through the roof.

The better form of striking would be an organised boycott of a certain name. Choose BP, Shell or whoever.....if everyone boycotted one of them, their prices would need to be pushed down and so others would follow.

As usual though, the general public are idiots.

There was never a strike but your thinking of when the protestors blockaded the oil refinery`s.

Cant see that being as effective if it happened again though...Im not 100% sure but as far as i know new laws has been passed so police can just remove the protestors.

Without road tax how would you prove that everyone has a Valid MOT and insurance? Although not totally foul proof that ssytem works relatively well at the moment.
