I know its a few weeks away but any early views on this race?

The Great Voltigeur Stakes looks to have a good field depending on who actually runs.  It would be interesting to see if Fire and Rain makes it as he was mentioned a lot before as a poss Derby winner and beat Red Rock quite comfortably in his only run.  I have always liked Papul Bull but think he needs Fallon to get the best out of him.  At the moment I think SEPTIMUS will be the one for me. Has won there already and should have a great chance.

I think the Fallon facta is crucial to Papal Bull, you can just see the likes of Kinane and Moore making a right rick of things on this horse!

Septimus for me if there is cut in the ground, will simply gallop them into submission. Spencer to replace Fallon.

Bobby,

Looks like we agree on the Fallon\Papul Bull factor - reckon he would have been a lot closer in The Derby if Fallon was on him rather than Winston.

To be fair to Winston it was his first Derby ride, but with the Mighty Fallon on board it would have been closer, but not the winner.

Masterful ride at RA by Fallon on this horse.

I am not a big lover of the Flat, and one of the few joys of flat racing is to watch Fallon in overdrive in a big group race. This is being deprived us and its a disgrace.

Bob

Even if Fallon was available would he be at York? Irish Champion Stakes day is on too and remember he stayed at home and picked up a nice treble for himself last year.

Daylami I've not seen it race to be honest so was supprised that its joint fav for the Great Voltage. I wil have to watch some of his races. I just think the course form Septimus has and his abilty to stay should see him go very close.

Totally agree about Fallon, Bobby. He just makes the group ones that bit more exciting as you always look to see what he is on and how it performs - IMO.
Also cant wait for the jumps season to start upl!!

daylami,

soapy danger, a queens vase winner,is exactly the kind of st leger bet you dont want to be on.i have betted on a few t queens vase winners like mamool and windsor castle in the past and they always ran crap.after all its makes sense that a horse who is proven at the trip and beyond should be a more logical bet then horses who havent tried the distance beofre, but the kind of horse you want for the st leger is a horse who hasnt ran beyond 1m4f yet.

rob mate
you can say that stats are saying to avoid it but look who it beat last time

mountain high at least group 2 level (i think group winner waiting to happen at 1 mile 2 furlongs)

Enforcer 4th in the KG and 3rd in the cornation cup (group ones i think he was not beaten that far and soapy danger beat him

In the queens vase everything that went wrong did and he still won to be honest i think is toughiness got him home at ascot and he will enjoy the step back to 1 mile 6 furlongs for the leger also the long straight will aid is course.

I agree that septimus could be the one to beat especially if it turns soft as he will stay and horses that run in midfield in the derby have good records in the leger (brian boru)

I just feel that soapy danger is improving massively and is being under esitmated for the leger

come on darly kick him on son

agree he did well to beat mountain high, but according to enforcers trainer,he is no good on stiff finish courses and enforcers record itself bears this out.wasnt pointing out stats this time, just from experience i know queens vase winners do poorly and i have backed a few to find this out.however more horses who participate in the st leger in recent renewels and gone beyond 1m4.5f have outnumbered horses who have been kept to shorter distances a,but the shorter distance runners have won all the time and not only that ,been responsible for horses coming 2nd as well a lot of the time.

okay rob agree with you in some areas but i think that this horse could be the one as he is tough stays and has a bit of class and his improving.

Okay there maybe horses that are in the field who could improve further but i just feel that this horse is the one to buck the stats maybe

anyway good luck on what ever you are on mate

I hope Soapy Danger does not win, or the Scottish Windbag will be insufferable for months!

With Jimbob's thread on best jocks, I had a look down the champ jocks list and suddenly remembered that Darley was champ jock a short while ago, god that must have been a bad year

it's a shame what as happened to him, but i still havent changed my mind on red rocks.i also hope dettori will be on as although he as admitted himself he should of held on a bit longer to him,its the st leger thats counts after all and he will know what to do next time.this youmzain is worrying me though ,as having backed him at something like 130-1 for the derby ,in which he didnt run in the end,he as won twice since and i over looked him both times.

would be sods law then Rob if he then went on to win this race!! I just dont really fancy Channons runners in these big group races especially the St Leger but i could be wrong.
Are you sure Red Rocks will stay the extra distance as my brother and I arent to sure
