I have picked out horses that are (a) mostly mares and fillies, (b) have no vices (I noticed that quite a lot of horses for sale have noted in their descriptions things like "Has been seen to box walk....windsuck....crib" These must be be avoided as they are difficult to get fully fit and such vices indicate at the very least a suspect temperament or poor quality of environment and early training); (c) are NOT described as "an ideal ladies' pointer" - ie too slow to keep itself warm! ditto "would make a good eventer" - with apologies to Duchess!); (d) are 5 or younger; (e) some are eligible for BHB owners' premium; (f) have at least some jumping in their pedigree and some have already raced over jumps.
There are only two on offer with well-known jumping sires - Lots 84 (Linamix) and 148 (Alflora). Other lots potentially of interest, in my opinion, are 67, 68, 80, 81, 100, 110 and 123.
I will be interested to see how much these lots make.
Please don't worry, I am not going tomorrow to buy something on spec! But I thought this might be of general interest. _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!
Hi Jenny - I'm just going to have a nosey at this (edit - Jenny - Not sure if it's the same for everyone but I can't get anything from that link!)
Please could you check your messages! _________________ Cocktails may not be the answer.... but they help you forget the question Vodka... Cheaper than B otox and paralyses more muscles!
To amuse (possibly) - here are some descrptions and their "cribs" from typical advertisements for horses:
"Not a novice ride" - off it's head
"Would progress in the right hands" - hopeless
"Super second pony" - too gassy for anyone under 30
"Schoolmaster" - will only go out with other horses, otherwise simply refuses to leave the stable yard
"Sensible" - walks slowly and eats grass, bracken and bushes a lot
"Good doer" - overweight and greedy; will eat anything, including your coat
"Has hunted" - only once, and that was a disaster
"Good to box, shoe, clip" - but wrecks the stable, and can't be caught
"Goes first or last" - will bolt if at the front of a group, will charge through the group if held up at the back
"Good in traffic" - spooks at every plastic bag and drain cover
"Gentle" (usually of mare) - lies down in stable 23 hours out of 24. The other hour, is cosying up to the nearest gelding
"Well-schooled" - has been forced to "assume the correct position" by the application of a wide range of severe bits, gadgets, martingales and so-called "training aids"
"Has been long-reined" - has been worked from the ground because it's impossible to get a saddle on it _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!
