According to the paper today, Andrew Strauss has been trying to persuade Banger to come out of his international retirement to play as a specialist Twenty/20 player, following from KP's attempts last autumn.
One assumes neither have read his autobiography, but it surely also illustrates the struggle England have in the top order at the moment.
Personally, I'm a born-and-bred Ciderwoman and county always comes before country for me, so while I'm sorry Banger's unable to fulfill his talent on the big stage I'm very happy to have him "at home"...
but.... I always think we should pick the best England team we can. Rather than the central contracts nonsense, the selectors should pick a squad then pick a captain, and they should pick the best that's available to them AT THE TIME. And if that means picking different teams for the one-days and Twenty/20s to the tests, they should do it. And if it means picking a cracking player who has an illness that prevents him travelling overseas just for the home series, maybe they should be doing that too?
Especially this year. The Ashes come even above Somerset for me!
Seems his demons are still there has hes had to leave the champions league T20 for Somerset.
Yes. I thoguht he might be struggling a bit as he hasn't played as well as he can. Very sad but - he tried, the club did what they could to make it easier for him, and it hasn't worked. So if nothing else, I think it will finally put to bed any "what ifs" he might have had.
I'm very much looking forward to him being "my" captain next season, he remains an outstanding player and Somerset are, I believe, absolutely the right club for him. _________________ "The Guineas are too early - I found two dead polar bears on our gallops this week, annd a penguin nicked my scarf"

Totally agree with Rowan. I'm in the middle of his autobiography, and have just got to the bit where he first feels and reacts to the terrible symptoms. It must be hard to describe such extreme feelings, and even harder to deal with them on a daily basis. These illnesses are dreadful in that they can never be cured - just managed.
Wish him all the best for his Somerset and personal future.
