Bet One The Championship Ipswich – Newcastle Saturday 1.30pm Back ‘Under 2.5 goals’
This is an interesting match – with one of the Championship’s highfliers – Newcastle United – up against a club that is currently languishing amongst the relegation places - Ipswich Town.
Newcastle just aren’t playing like a big ‘fav’ at the moment. They’re struggling to create scoring chances and most importantly of all, when they do score, they seem quite happy to sit back and absorb the pressure.
Their shooting stats are poor (they’re currently at the bottom of the ‘road’ shooters table) with only 5 away goals scored.
It’s a similar goal-shy story with Ipswich, who have scored only 3 home goals in 4 matches – they are creating chances, it’s simply a lack of personnel to pop the ball in the old onion bag.
I fancy these two will cancel themselves out tomorrow, and at odds of 5/6, I’m more than happy to bet on it.
Bet Two Premiership Birmingham – Bolton Saturday 3.00pm Back the Total Goals to be Under 2.5
The bald figures tell you plenty about the home team.
Birmingham have played 3 home games so far this season, and the goal tally for those three matches is ‘scored 1, conceded 1.’
And that’s just the sort of side Birmingham are – tough to score against, but strugglers when it comes to scoring themselves.
Visitors Bolton have only played 2 away games – in the first they were beaten 1-0 by Hull, and the second they won 3-2 at Portsmouth. But that Portsmouth scoreline could be misleading, with 2 of Bolton’s being goals hotly disputed by Pompey.
Bolton were awarded a 41st minute penalty that many football writers considered to be very harsh on Portsmouth (code for saying the ref got it wrong,) and then Bolton scored a goal in the 89th minute when 2 of their players appeared clearly offside.
Take those 2 disputed goals out and Bolton’s goal tally would have been just 1.
So I reckon that both sides could find it tough to score here.
Bet Three Premiership Liverpool - Hull Saturday 3.0pm Back Liverpool ‘To Win To Nil.’
Liverpool are one of the Premiership’s ‘Big 4’ teams (along with Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal) and they are currently in third place in the league table.
Hull only just escaped relegation last year, haven’t been much better this season, and are currently 19th in the league table.
On all known form Liverpool should win this.
A lack of goals is one of the big reasons that Hull are in the position they are – they have only scored 5 goals in their 6 games so far, and against one of the Premiership’s best defences they are going to have a tough day changing things.
thre'll be goals at ipswich. We still can't defend and we have harewood debuting up front. _________________ Geordie_R
