For my part I learnt (learned?) that cheltenham festival form does indeed transform itself into Aintree form in a few cases (as illuminated by RJI earlier - please don't get upset KK   ) Something to bear in mind for next year for those of us that didn't know this time. (so just me then...)

The days between must have had some effect on Cheltenham performances being better than normal.
Flat horses always seem to be better @ Aintree and it is always worth looking out for the ones that have been saved for Aintree
Blytht Knight & Kings Quay spring to mind

Noted

The ground couldn't have had anything to do with it do you think?

the extra week as helped though.there was a time when there was only 2 weeks rest between the 2.3 weeks is the norm these days and thats probably the shortest period needed for cheltenham form to uphold.

agree with yaiyam, aintree form, al aile coming back with avengance

I learnt

Dont over do your bets in the National.

And like Kyle, Aces Four is a horse to watch in staying chases next year, on pedigree personally i think the Scottish National would be right up his street. But they seem to think he could be Gold Cup class, fair enough, he probably could cut it out in there.

Not sure you had a big fancy or not but with me on the National if i do not fancy anything strongly i just look to the outsiders for a bit of fun although saying that i did have Livingstonebramble to win over £28,000 and was happy that Silver Birch won as Livingstonebramble only finished 2L behind him a couple of runs ago all be it over hurdles so he could not have been without total hope.
If you do not have a strong fancy when the weights are published then only play small as nothing of note happens between then and the National

To enjoy the racing :angel7:

Only to put money down when it is my nap! Do not fritter money on small speculative bets, they mount up!

I learnt that if you are going to put a big antepost bet on a 40/1 shot, the you should probably do it each way.

Otherwise, when the horse fails to get up by 3/4 of a length in the worlds most famous steeplechase, one is left feeling rather annoyed!!

I have learnt that I still don't really like the National but am seduced every year by it's history and ability to change lives

That I should never abandon hope (Silver Birch)

That I should never abandon hope (Detroit City)

That it ruins the whole thing when horses and people get injured

That Aintree needs 40 starting stalls because it would be quicker and safer than the clot in the hat on a rostrum with a wee flag

I've learnt :-

Still love the National.

The ground staff are amazing, the ground looked amazing every day.

Sue Barker shoudn't present horse racing on the BBC.

I'm looking forward to see Twist Magic, Mighty Man and Simon next year.

Roll on the flat !!!!

Enjoyed the meting.

Not sure I've learnt it but isn't it incredible how often one of the strongly fancied horses falls at the first in the National.

Almost set your clock by it.
