See other post ref Perth i am going to York for the 3 day meeting with another mate who likes a dram like my self so we have bought a special bottle of Aberlour for the the trip
It is called Aberlour A'bunadh it is 59.6 % compared to the 40 % vol

Was in a house last night another whisky collector an he has 190 full bottles of whisky but my collection to shame, he offered me 2 special bottles of Aberlour for £950.00 i said no too dear in case you fell & broke them.

Obviously it is yours and you must drink it as you find it most palatable
I take mine neat always, although I am told that some benefit from some water.
My mouth is watering - enjoy

In my opinion a really good malt like Aberlour needs no water, as long as you treat it like brandy - an after-dinner digestif. If drinking it at any other time, or if you prefer water anyway, the purer the water the better (no tap water which is heavily chemicalled, for example). We are lucky in that we have our own well and if I have a decent malt I fill a carafe from the well. Not everyone is thus advantaged, though!
But the best advice is from WMH and Penleguin - enjoy it whatever way pleases you most..... _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!

Now this is my kind of thread!!
Today is my birthday so hopefully some kind friends or relations will oblige with the usual bottle.
I will be sure to have a tot or two of Talisker after dinner (with one ice cube so you are not the only one the_pilgarlic!!)
Just wanted to ask you whiskey drinkers- the recent series of Jack Daniels ads lay it on thick about heritage, craftsmanship, quality etc; I assumed this is a nonsense, and no self-respecting whiskey-lover would consider supping the stuff? _________________ Known as the catch of the camp.
On the water question, remember that most malt whiskies are bottled at factories in the central belt. This is where they add water to bring the strength down to 40% and it will be good old tap water, not the lovely pure stuff used during the distillation.
If you don't like your tap water then use bottled water, if it is OK then you're really just adding MORE tap water.

Have a virtual drink on me, happy birthday.
