haha exactly, he hasn't even served his term as president yet, how do we know what decisions he is going to make.
Or perhaps more importantly what decisions or influence has he had on world peace up to now?
Answer, nothing! All he has done is be the first black president, yippee doo dahs.
Give the prize to someone who has really made a difference.

from the BBC website quoting the citation
"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the Norwegian committee said in a statement.
"His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population."
Asked why the prize had been awarded to Mr Obama less than a year after he took office, Nobel Committee head Thorbjoern Jagland said: "It was because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve".
"It is a clear signal that we want to advocate the same as he has done," he said.
He specifically mentioned Mr Obama's work to strengthen international institutions and work towards a world free of nuclear arms.

Utter joke imo, but then they did give this to Bono didn't they? Worth about as much as a knighthood these days then.

Bit premature if you ask me. Brings to mind the old adage 'Easier said than done'
Has he actually brokered any peace deals yet?
I like to think I keep up with current events, but I haven't noticed great world healing events yet.
Didn't Iran just test a few nukes? They obviously weren't invited to the party.

What is it that he did win like this? I know it was something really well thought of, no idea what though?

In Obama's defence he does seem a bit embarrassed about this. We're not living in very peaceful times - maybe they gave it to him in the hope that he'll really deserve it one day
He has tweeted - or someone has on his behalf - "humbled"
Ref. Bono - He won something but I can't remember it and googling isn't helping!

No, it's a joke.
Nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize are made in February, for heavens sake. He hadn't been in office long enough to do anything of any merit, and so far it's all been talk.
It's completely devalued the honour. The only good thing is that Obama is clearly embarassed by it too.

I guess i understand why he has got it and admire him even more for showing his humility.
I hope the world sits up takes notice and realises the symbolism! (spelling?)

You couldn`t make it up could you? If Obama wants to keep his credibility intact he should give it back saying it should go to someone far more deserving than himself, eg Morgan Tsvangarai, a man who has been battling for years against the oppression and suffering under the tyrant Mugabe. A man who needs and deserves all the international support possible.
Give me strength!

Great post Mozzer.
As some of you probably noticed, in the build up to the US Elections, I was firmly supporting Mccain(of the two people who actually had a chance of winning. If I had a vote it would have probably gone to the Green Party).
Since he has taken office I have warmed to him. He inherited a mess and so far, has done a pretty good job I must admit. However, The Nobel Peace Prize? For crying out loud if ever there was evidence of an Obama cult it's this!!

I think he does deserve enormous credit for the change in foreign policy attitude- opening the door to talks with the likes of Iran, telling the Muslim world that America is changing, telling Americans that Muslims aren't, actually, all rabid deranged terrorists who "hate our freedom". This would have been pretty much unthinkable a year ago. It's not as solid and quantifiable as saying X has now signed a peace treaty with Y, it is more a sense of the new potential that now exists for sorting out numerous issues.
