6 Nations 2009I can see no reason why Wales will not win it again but probably no grand slam this time.I thnk of the "big 4" England and France have gone backwards whilst Ireland and Wales have maintained or improved. As Wales has England and Ireland to play in Cardiff it makes them likeliest winners.
Don't see sufficient improvement, yet, in Scotland and think italy will be a valiant last with their crucial fixture being at Murrayfield.
So it's Wales,Ireland,England,France,Scotland & Italy in that order imho.

Yes I'm sure Johnson will want to BUT to pick Goode and Ellis at halfback is not forwardthinking - much better to give youngsters some game time(I know Ellis is only 26 but he's not good enough). Also Italy usually start the 6 Nations well and their performances tail off as the tournament progresses.
Archie - I'm not underestimating the Scots but they have lost 2 vital forwards to injury for the game on Sunday and surely to frighten Wales Hadden's selection could/should have been a little bolder with the likes of Thom Evans picked.
Archie/TGS/SM - thank you.

Wales are traditionally poor favourites but having analysed it I can't see why they won't win it again as the fixtures fall better for them this year even though they have 3 away games.Haven't put them up as a bet as think 2/1 is stingy so have put up another grand Slam for them at 11/2 as a value bet.

It's a shame Henson is out of Sunday. Henson and Roberts at 12 and 13 could be a master stroke by Galtland. I'm looking forward to seeing them.

You could do a lot worse than backing Julien Malzieu to be
France's 'Top Tryscorer' in the competition. The Clermont winger
has been racking up scores for his club all season and he comes into this
Six Nations in the best form of his life.

I need to see what I've got left before I worry about Wales and England!
First off - Scotland +8 - I have a vague theory that they were't that bad last week (when they weren't knocking themselves out), plus France always give away penalties (I have nothing to back this up though), plus I always go against France

I thought England were excellent today and possibly for the first time since Gatland/Edwards have taken over Wales were outthought!
BUT Johnson needs to be done with yesterdays men - Vickery/Bortwick/Goode/Tindall/Cueto - and give youth it's chance NOW.
Wales are now a world class side and could well win another Grand Slam.
Well done to scotland - too little too late Frank.

If England had not lacked discipline they would have been closer, but I still don't think they would have won (just!)

Archie,I hope you're right and I'm wrong as I'd love to see Scotland win by 30 points whilst scoring a bucketful of tries.BUT I fear the Italian aim will be to stop Scotland playing by conceding penalties and keeping in touch on the scoreboard. If that's the case I just hope the referee remembers to use his cards frequently.

What is it about rugby that makes grown men cry? I'm sure the anthems are there to wind them up even further!
I'm feeling a ridiculous amount of guilt betting against England! Brian Moore isn't helping!!
I started following 5 Nations properly when I worked in a university conference centre from about 1991 - Then it was all Rob Andrew, Will Carling and the Devine Jeremy Guscott!! And a few other scary lookers like Brian Moore and Martin Johnson!!!
The Uni ran some Open University type science-courses where they'd have to stay the weekend and we organised the tea break to coincide with the beginning of the 2nd half. I had to watch the first half, make tea and coffee at half time and try and update them before the 2nd half started... wasn't long before I became obsessed enough not to make notes.
We were supposed to wait-on in a white shirt and black skirt - we actually waited on in a England White Shirt (and black skirt )
That time is probably where my dislike of France comes from - and why I feel SO guilty about betting against England
Why do I need to explain myself?
Ramble over!
