it want garry numan who did it, it was an impersonator.

"dont be a dummy"

also

'insigna's got everything from shampoo to shower gel'

was followed with "deodorant and after shave for one all over smell.
try insignia, create a buzz not a hum"

why do i know this tripe?

of course loads of brand names have been changed (opal fruits, marathon etc) for international uniformity.

The brand name I most miss is Rumbelows because they used many years ago to run a good record club

You pull me up about a cricket joke, now this reference to a product I haven't heard of in ages, I was only eluding to the little guys of tin, it would seem that you are missing our little contretemps, if you want we can continue, no problem, but if you want to ignore what you consider to be my gaffes then I will do the same for you.

Yes you can! But it is not at all heavily advertised and the question was What Brand Names don't you Hear Any More, which I assumed meant products that might be still on the market but which are not advertised a whole lot nowadays.

When I was at school we were still eating spam and Digging for Victory (well almost....!) Swan Vestas matches were popular as stakes for poker games at school, where I was taught poker by one of the nuns - Sister Kevin will live forever in my memory.

Low-end fortified wines are cheap, low-quality fortified wines. In contrast to table wine, which may be enjoyed as an accompaniment to a meal, or high-end fortified wine, enjoyed as an aperitif or digestif, low-end fortified wines are generally used for intoxication purposes. Many people refer to it as "hooch," "street wine," "fortified wine," "bum wine," or "ghetto wine."

I bought a Sergio Tachinni jacket today. Not sure that a 36 year old should be wearing it but I could not resist it.

I reckon the price I paid today (£45) is around the price I would have paid 15/20 years ago.

Not quite but very good.

At first they were all grey and red but then other colours came out and everyone wanted a colour that no one else had. One kid got a white one that he thought was dead cool until someone pointed out that it was in the womens secction of the argos catalogue

Pendleton's Ice Cream.

Also when I first started using aftershave there was one on the market called Hai Karate.

It smelt like a mixture of gin and paxo.

The bottle informed men that using this product would ensure you would have semi clad models hovering around your groin day and night. They therefore kindly printed instructions on the label as to how you could use martial arts to keep them at bay.

You couldn't make it up.

we still have an open fire but I dont use firelighters; lst ones I got were for the BBQ.... were wrapped in foil; tiny tim or something?
jennywales

We use Zip firelighters all the time, they are readily available in all local shops and supermarkets, and everyone buys them. This is probably because in our neck of the woods quite a lot of people have solid fuel ranges/woodburners or indeed both. When central heating oil was relatively cheap, a lot of farmhouses were converted to oil-fired ranges - but little by little these are being abandoned for solid fuel (coal or coke or mixed coal and wood) or even all-wood on properties where wood is in large supply. For example, we have not bought wood for our two woodburners for two years now, because I have charge of forestry and see to it that we have wood fuel all winter.

The great think about wood is that it is a renewable resource - where I take down a tree for fuel (and the cwm needs clearing out a bit anyway, for the health of the forest floor, light, encouragement of indigenous species and so on) I always plant another one - and we also have 11 acres under broadleaf planting which was put in 4 years ago. OK, the oaks and ashes won't be harvested for another 60 years or so (in the oak's case probably over 100 years) but still.....Forestry gives you perspective - you are working not for yourself but for the next generation, the one after that, and the one after that, at least!!

Do you have any.........erm..........think the latin name for it...........erm......... conker trees?

MT jnr
jennywales

Aesculus hippocastanum....Common horse chestnut.

Oddly enough, although common throughout most of the country, they are pretty rare round here and we don't have a single one. They are an East Asian import, although they are now considered as naturalised. The American branch ( ) of the family are the various Buckeyes, including the Ohio Buckeye after which one of their college football teams is named.
