Chabal To GodolphinThere getting quite a collection. Kingsfort and now Chabal:
Chabal bought by Godolphin
The Jim Bolger-trained Chabal will run his last race for the Irishman on Saturday when he features in the Jumeirah Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.
Lady O’Reilly’s two-year-old Galileo colt has been sold to Godolphin and will transfer to the Dubai stables after the race, in which Bolger is seeking his fourth successive win.
Godolphin spokesman Simon Crisford confirmed the move to The Irish Times this morning, saying: “We have been able to do a deal on Chabal who will run in the Dewhurst in his current ownership.
“After that he will switch to Godolphin.”
Chabal has run just twice in a fledgling career and was most recently second in the National Stakes at the Curragh to the Kevin Prendergast-trained Kingsfort - a horse also bought by Godolphin last month.

maybe next year is the year they get it right?
I am also on Chabal for both the Guineas and the Derby
They like all outfits must eventually learn from their mistakes and the fact that they have already made plenty gets me thinking that perhaps we have got to the bottom of them

I don't believe it Godolphin have way too much money. I just hope they see sense and aim him at the Derby they have enough Guineas contenders already.

No way around it, I'm deeply disappointed he has joined Godolphin. I think he will win the Dewhurst and will then lay off my bet on him for the 2000 Guineas.

Agree with Swagger, it's a nightmare of a transfer for Ante Post backers.
I just hope Jim was not ramping at the start of the week to get the price up for Godolphin to buy, if all is to be believed and what I have been told this horse will win as it likes.

Didn't they already own Shamardal, they just moved him from Johnson to the main operation ?

Not so much a purchase but they transfered Mark of Esteem from Henrys to Godolphin after a hoo ha with Cecil's girlfriend.

I can remember when Godolphin only had runners in Group races with the occasional Class 2 runner.
How the mighty have fallen.
They will be back with a vengeance.

Shamardal was owned by Abdullah Buhaleeba when he won the Vintage but his owners brother got a bit carried away in a casino or something so he had to sell his nags to bail him out - to Gainsborough Stud, then on to Godolphin in Shamardal's case. That's what I remember but then my memory's not too great....
He was in G. Studs colours at Newmarket (a bit like the Godolphin silks but with chevrons on the sleeves) - oh what a day that was, watched him waltz up on the rail under K. F. Darley at a gift of 4-1.

I'm one of Godolphins biggest critics, in that they spend big money on great horses and just seem to completely ruin them. They have, however, had a pretty decent season this year, in so much as you know where you are with a lot of there horses and they've been running to form for the most part. I think they could yet again be a force next season, It'd be great for racing if they were.

mmmm.... here we have a man who consistently proves (and often comes straight out and says as much) that he has little interest in the betting public - a man who has done more to scupper ante post markets than most and suddenly he announces he has a horse thats better than Teofilio and New Approach - then sells the horse...
No two ways about it David - I don't doubt this horse could be something special but in answer to your question I think you can take it as read that last week's article was all to do with the upcoming sale...

I'm not sure what to make of Jim's comments. His vibes about Gan Ahmras before the Derby were uncharacteristically positive, GA then didn't handle the track and flopped in Ireland. Frankly this leaves one a bit cautious as you start to think he's assuming/hoping that the next Teofilo/New Approach is in the pipeline.
Rather cynically I'm waiting for a warning to punters about the ground/course/weather..... though I want to see a monster performance on Saturday and he could be the one. How early were you hearing the positive vibes David?
As for Godolphin, they have invested a huge amount into racing in an attempt to compete with Coolmore. In practice this means that lots of very promising horses have been bought up and in the end few have been top drawer. One view of this would be that unintentionally they're making Coolmore's job easier through removal of the competition.

Bolger probably got himself an extra million out of Godolphin because of his comments. No coincidence that he started to drift once he was sold. Fair play to Bolger - looked after number one. Mugs like me fell for it

It's pantomime isn't it?
Who's to say that the buyer didn't instruct the seller to say those things?

Maybe the Godolphin 'curse' affected it before it even moved yards!
I think more likely is the fact that his horses are not really in form, yard form is something i take more notice of than horse form. My job involves running bloods and it is surprising how often a yard will have poor bloods without any definite illness and their horses just run badly. Yet another factor which us poor punters have no knowledge of.
