czech PardubiceHi
does anyone know if it is possible to watch the Pardubice on line? I don't normally get too bothered by this race although it is pretty unusual but Kim Bailey has a nice horse going for it (see his blog to see him practising the different sorts of jumps - the horse that is not Kim) and it would be nice to see how it gets on. there are a few Uk horses going over.

Good question - I don't know But I imagine it'll be on You Tube by tomorrow night....
I do know who won't be there!
c/o Alan Lee
It is the Velka Pardubicka tomorrow - a romantic magnet for some, anathema to others. Four British-trained horses run in the latest renewal of this most daunting of cross-country races and, as usual, Charlie Mann and Ferdy Murphy are among the trainers involved. Murphy, though, must do without his stable jockey. An unabashed Graham Lee explained: “I told him when I joined the stable that he'd never get me to ride in that race.”
Graham Lee sems to have more common sense than most jump jockeys

Thanks for that just got in in time to see. Thought they had very ragged start then realised they have a practice jump on way to start. Unfortunatley, i think Kim's horse unseated on a turn.

Thanks for posting up the link Sue. I see Sixteen ran another cracker in the race to be 2nd. Shame that Ferdy's horse ran out early on.

Horses deserve a medal for finishing a course like that as well as the jockeys for knowing which way to go!!!

Im really not keen on this race..Take fence 8 and 9..Just two strides between each fence.
And where are the safety rails to stop loose horses running all over the track?

Roch, that sort of obstacle is routine in the cross-country phase of the 3-day-event; I grant you the horses go round solo, not in a group! On the safety rail thing, I don't think the Czech Republic has exactly the same approach to health and safety as we do (ie over-regulated, fussy and nitpicking!) I don't think safety rails are a requirement under EU legislation (in fact, I'd be surprised if anything very much to do with racing was subject to EU-wide rules.)
To be honest, I always think the lack of runout areas on the Grand National course is as dangerous as not having any safety rails at all, although I think they have improved this over the last few years.

Hi Jen
Watch the video of the race at 1min 50secs, the loose horse heading across from the right very nearly crashed straight into the main group of runners!

Yep they have. There`s now a runout area on the approach to the chair fence.

I don't think there's a lot of difference between this race and the croos country races at Cheltenham, there are no rails there either. and even when there are rails horses still manage to get themselves in trouble - just remember back to AP's unseating in the National, and sometimes when horses get the wrong side of the rails they are more dangerous as they will always try to rejoin the herd and they sometimes end up coming back towards the main runners. it is a shame that there did appear to be a severe injury and it was caused at the water jump that trainers are trying to get rid of over here as horses often just drop their back legs in.

Hi Cath
Yeah but the fences at Cheltenham are not as daunting! Fence four for example..Reminds me of Beechers Brook and the Chair rolled into one.
