Each way betting on courseBookies are not adhering to the standard each way terms on course and some punters feel this is driving racegoers away, any comments?[/b]

As highlighted on Channel 4 with on course bookies giving poor E/W value in large handicaps!
Nothing new there!

I really don't use on course bookies these days. I usually study the races in the morning and place my bets then so I don't have to rush around as much on course.
And if I am at the races and one of my horses is a non-runner or I want another bet in a race. I can access most bookies on my phone, so can take advantage if one is paying 5 places, refunding fallers, etc. On Saturday at Cheltenham I think I had a better price on 4 out of 6 of my bets doing that way, which I can live with.
My friend placed most of his bets on Betfair in the end, but he backs on the nose. Again I think only once or twice the price on course was better.

on course bookies have ben really hit hard by internet gambling and the recession; people go to the course and lpace their bets on their i-phone...
they are just trying to increase their margin, cant say i blame them

that's a bit like a shop who are struggling putting up all of their prices to increase margins - utterly stupid.
it's their failure to be competitive on price that causes bookies to lose business to the exchanges etc. nothing worse than a bad bookie.

Some bookmakers have never given the proper place terms which has spoilt it for the rest thats why people use other methods when they are at the course.
It really comes down to the customers going to the right bookmakers, if everyone who placed there each way bets went to the ones who are going 1/4 first 4 instead of 1/5 first 4 then they would be doing hardly any trade therefor would have to follow suit.
Its a bit like the few who on big handicaps go 1/4 first 5, yet you still have people placing there bets on 1/4 first 4 as long as people are daft enough to do this then they will keep offering those terms.
Its about time all punters used there brains to bet not Just a select few

Can betting on your phone lead to you being ejected from a course?

Only if they catch you.

Managed to find this on one racecourse site.
"The use of mobile phones and laptops for gaming purposes in the Betting Ring and Sports Betting Hall is not permitted"
So as long as you place your bets elsewhere you should be ok.

Surely it'd be all but impossible to prove. You could just say 'I wasn't on the phone to a bookmaker I was advising my friend on a bet after seeing the runners.' How could they prove otherwise?

its a shame though isnt it not to bet on course.....nothing like handing over your cash and collecting a nice wad a small time later to put into your pocket....Something about being at the races and having a wad full of cash in your pocket that i like...its emotive....i even like seeing the bookies pull it out of there pockets in thick bundles...part of what its all about for me...

unfortunately there are too many accountants in gambling now - on both sides of the fence - so to pay for them the punter gets screwed that bit harder than in days gone by.

Just point out today that in the RP Trophy only 3 bookmakers are going 1/4 first 3, they are BET365, Totesport & Stan James.
Also Skybet offer 1/4 first 5 in the 14:20.
And the 13:55 @ Chepstow(Silver Trophy) Is now a 15 runner(max) race so to get 4 places all bets will have to be placed with Betfair now.
If people want bookmakers to start changing there ways then they should take a stance, otherwise stop moaning
