five refs experiment

Starts tommorrow in the Europa league group stages.
It will feature an assistant referee beside each goal to help judge whether players have dived in the penalty area and committes fouls at set pieces and also determine whether the ball has crossed the goal line.

Looking forward to see how this is going to work.
Could be the way forward or could be the case of too many cooks

David Moyes is telling his players to be more careful in the penalty box ,as there could be more penalties .
Noting clubs penalty takes a bit more ,worth a look and could land you a nice antyime scorer ,first goal scorer markets
Anyone know the penalty takers for any of the clubs playing tonight ,know Leighton Baines took one for Everton ,could be a good price

this is a stupid idea.

One of the joys of football is that the rules are the same from the sunday afternoon leagues to the world cup final. Given that grass roots football often finds it hard to get referees and linesmen consist of 2 of the spectators more often than not, where are the 4th and 5th officials going to come from?

Me, Papa and the kids always stand behind the goal up the local park to watch the Sunday league game.
Am sure Papa will not shy away at shouting at the ref if he spots any infringements

I have even reffed the game when the official never turned up, the first words to the captains are, " I am playing with two men short, the linesmen, if your teams played two men short you would almost certainly lose, any decision that I give will be honest, and if I am crap, I will equally be crap for both teams, now let's get on with game and enjoy it"

It's already different isn't it, as you say the linesmen are usual spectators and they only judge throws. Ref has to look after off sides, which is why teams can run out after the balls being kicked and still get the decision    well that's our tactic anyway

As we already have a fourth official will these be called the 5th and 6th

I think it will be more like tennis, line judges ex cetera.  But the thing that puzzles me is that the ball is not out of play until the whole of it is over the outside of the line, yet when a throw in is taken they have their feet on the line, therefore taking the throw in from in play, why is this not signalled as a foul throw.?????
