fri 16th

on friday in 4-55newmarket  gerald butlers agente parmigiano is very well fancied and is expected to go well, Fallon is booked
Jimbob

Thanks Tony. I'm considering going to HQ tomorrow if I decide I can justify it financially. Will definitely have a bet if I go. Maybe have one if I don't
david-uk

Bushman in the Group 3 for me, been waiting a while for him, hope the ground is not too fast.

I think Glass Harmonium will be hard to beat in this. Nothing wrong with its run last time on unfavourable weight terms and will strip fitter here and be more suited to the stiffer 9f tomorrow. 9/2 looks nice and suggests people think he ran moderately last time, which i disagree with.
Rowan

Much to my amazement there's some decent sized fields at Cheltenham tomorrow, despite the gd/firm ground. Haven't looked at  the card yet but can't wait
theBear

Guys and gals,

Stable very confident about The Jigsaw Man in the last at Cheltenham. He's schooled brilliantly and is fit as a flea.
Phillip Hobbs had one entered at the 5 day stage who may have troubled TJM but wasn't declared so should be pretty straight forward
Jimbob

The info's coming in thick & fast today! Thanks for that The Bear

Have another glass of wine and contemplate.

The wbx may throw up a contestant for March (that race may be on Saturday though - another glass   )

Fancy Rio in this. Serious G1 form at 3 over 8F. Off injured..awfull return first time up the other month but in ground far from ideal and was eased heavily when beaten. Ran well lto just going down to confront over the mile. Looked to be heading back to his true level there. Hoping the step up in trip is fine and cherry ripe to win after his last outing. Not sure if ill back at the price though. Hebridean, Charlie and Glass Harmoniam the dangers for me. Hebridean i quite fancy to go ok with fallon on board so that could be a good bet at 14/1.
Death n Taxes

one bet for me today.

The 345 at Newmarket a load of fillies looking to get some black type before asking STS if he would like to pop round for a quick cuddle.

Stoute runs two with Leocorno Moore's choice and the likely favourate although it is difficult to split the pair and it wouldn't suprise me to see the second string win.

However the master of the filly Mr Cecil runs Gripholm Castle. This horse has run fewer times than the stoute pair and probably has more scope for improvement. Currently 5-1 on betfair and thats me kind of price. On the form I can't her out of the first 3 and should be an ew bet to nothing.

agreed. looked between leocarno and Gripsholm Castle to me too with preference for the latter. Also think she looks an ew to nothing.

Here are my selections for the day including the boards tips that ill follow in on: Going to do them in some various combo bets as well as the singles and ews that i list. Fun stakes as proper bets are for tommoro

Friday 16th October:

235pm Newmarket CHAMPAGNE STYLE 12/1 EW

255pm Cheltenham SNAP TIE 4/6 WIN

310pm Newmarket RIO DE LA PLATA 5/2 WIN

345pm Newmarket GRIMSHOLPE CASTLE 5/1 EW

355pm Redcar MEDICINAL COMPOUND 3/1 EW

455pm Newmarket AGENTE PARMIGIANO 12/1 EW

550pm Cheltenham THE JIGSAW MAN 11/8 WIN

Edit to Add:

Joining Skanky & adding:

345pm Newmarket FLORA TREVELYAN 20/1 EW
Owl of Minerva

Can't wait to see SNAP TIE's chase debut. Always looked like a chaser, loves fast ground and loves to be fresh. Therefore I'm expecting an impressive performance from him today.
glennie1970

one very interesting runner today

SHALLAL 4.55 Newmarket

Looks like they have been waiting for fast ground and was withdrawn from Ascot recently when given draw 1 which obviously would have scuppered any chances he had. Has had 2 runs on soft this year which appears not to suit and won his maiden on GF ground so I think todays run could be a big one.

at 18/1 this looks a seriously good ew bet
Hampton

Very competaive racing today at Newmarket & Cheltenham:

Newmarket:

Charlie Farnsbarns - 3.10 Gripsholm Castle - 3.45 Bounty Box - 4.20 Big Noise - 4.55 Wiliam Blake - 5.30

Cheltenham:

Elite Land - 2.20 Templer - 3.30 Parson's Legacy - 4.05 Skipper's Lad - 5.15

I see skanky has weekend napped Flora Trevelyan 20/1 in this race. I had this one down as the other contender with leocarno and Gripolhme Castle. Well Bred and sure to improve. By 15llbs and whatever the other two do though ? not sure. Even so think skankys got a good bet here at 20/1 as thats a far bigger price than she should be. Wouldnt be surprised to see her win even though ultimetly think one of the other two at least should hold her off.i.e Grilshop. good bet though imo skanky

Gorg_George

Well I can't be arsed to go over the cards today and not doing very well at the minute either so am nicking the 2 most selected horses off here in a double which appear to be Agente Parmigiano and Grimsholpe Castle took 9/2 and 12/1 singles and a double, here's for hoping

The Cambridgeshire winner would appear to have alot to do against better horses today & I can't see him winning.
geordie_racer

get david pipe into teh stewards room to explin hthat one.... look at his last three runs and then tlellme  this horse has been running to its merits ....

what a con man, just like his dad

and before you ask...yes the pocket IS talking after getting the 100/30 favourite at 9/2 this morning
accajacca

purely from a layman's viewpoint, the handicap system here seems pretty punative and if i were an owner i would send my horse to a stable who could get him running off a fair mark and land a gamble, over a stable who pushed him all the way and ended up with him running as top weight every month without ever winning.

seems harsh to call him a conman when the system is designed in such a way as trainers who don't bend the handicap (i imagine) lose business.

happy to be educated otherwise though.
Gorg_George

Yet another winner for John Best there, you'll be eating lobsters and steaks for weeks Alan
Owl of Minerva

Did a pretty hefty double earlier:

Snap Tie 4/6, Jigsaw Man 11/8

Go on ST!
Owl of Minerva

Hmmm, got the job done but not all that impressive

Jumped much better in the second half of the contest I thought
Gorg_George

Nice one Owl, didn't win like tha ratings suggested he should but first past the post is first past the post. Hebridean 15/85 W/P here for me.

Rio de la Plata is turning into a bottomless pit!  I think they should try him on a turning mile as he eems to run races with the choke out - the all-weather should suit

I noticed Frankie was on the outside again (as with Judiciary) that's a terrible place on the Rowley Mile.  I know you wouldn't want to get trapped but the outside is like doing double the work with none of the benefit.

Just to unchill you, Geordie. I was at Cheltenham and I assume you are talking about Mutual Friend, the 23/1 winner from the Pipe stable which I backed. The reason I backed him was that he stood out in the paddock as the fittest and best prepared horse of the lot (if we are talking about the same race). I have a forum member as witness that I said this, and also that I would back him, so I'm not aftertiming.

Might you not do Pipe the courtesy of assuming that in this case it was a good training performance? I don't recall people calling him a con-man after he got Well Chief back in a good enough state to come second to Master Minded in the Queen Mum....

Won well...Bit of a worrying moment when he got quite badly squeezed up on the rail heading out on the final circuit though.
jennywales

He looked terrific in the paddock and I couldn't see anything to touch him in terms of fitness. Didn't really see the incident you mentioned because watching from the stands you don't get the benefit of the TV close-ups - the big screen is OK but I prefer to watch through bins or with bare eyes; I don't go racing to watch the TV (in exceptional circumstances I will, but generally not!)
Rochesterlad

Yet to visit Cheltenham..Must try and make it sometime this season!
