general greyhond thread (daily, tips, picks and genral stuff)

not sure whether this could be a sticky but just wanted to do a thread where we can put random picks, tips, news and general doggy chit chat.

so i'm bored mrs catbiscuit is out cutting hair and catbiscuit jnr is zzzz. so i picked 5 races @ the zoo and did a £1 e/w acc this is what happened:

winner (dead heat)
disq
won
place
won

gutted
alansouthcoast

I think different threads is more interesting, that way its easier to find info about a particular dog, rather than it all lumped on one thread.
katchit

After much deliberation with people who shall remain nameless i may have to give my TWO tickets away.
If they ever come through that is,
Please P.M if your interested?
Again i am still waiting for them to come through,
very much doubt i will get them to the weekend before the Derby.
alansouthcoast

Katchit i cant take up the offer but hopefully someone here can.

Many thanks...Alan

I'm on Primitive Way in the next, the betfair market is in running will keep an eye on it to see how fast punters are

Good race, the two market leaders went at it hammer and tong, shame my dog didn't win though. Considering how quick the race is the betfair market manages to keep up with it quite well.

The favourites have been turned over tonight, I'm laying Me Buddy. I watched the semis in the build up and thought that Droopys Marcus seemed to qualify the most convincingly.

Even though Me Buddy has a better draw now there looks to be plenty in the race to take it on and some of the puppy races have looked qute tough could easily run into trouble.
theGoingStick

How did Me Buddy keep out of all that trouble
theGoingStick

Is that all he wins £5,000, won't be able to get much pedigree chum for that
theGoingStick

Silly question but how old does a dog have to be before it qualifies for racing as a puppy ?
westmeadhawk

15 months is the youngest age to start trialling/racing - those between that age and 24 months are termed as puppies.

This is an interesting link

Thanks, I wasn't 100% sure.
catbiscuit

i am now able to get into the zoo free for the next 12 months thanks to v good freind that owns a dog a belle vue, as he has given me a owners pass.

i was talking to him at a sporting event on sat and he had a list for sat at the zoo that his trainer had marked off her famcies for the night (including his dog). i made a note of 4 and on the way home had a £2 e/w accum 3 came in one got nowhere gutted!!!

his dog came in @ 5-1 so that more than made up for it with the fiver i had on it, winner!

these are some dogs i reg follow at the zoo:

ghetto blaster
pimp my ride
barra biscuit
son of goblin

does anybody else have dogs they follow and bet on?
alansouthcoast

I have loads of dogs i follow in opens. Spridon Louis is my favourite at present. I also love all the Farloe dogs and the Tyrurs. My newest addition is Kilkenny Lonjack, i can really see this dog winning a big competition, hopefully on Saturday week !!
westmeadhawk

Obviously I like to follow the Westmeads, but not all, all the time and not blindly (I like to think).

I am really keen on two litter brothers, Westmead Diver and Osprey at the mo and I liked Westmead Tina's attitude a lot but I think she is out injured at the mo.

There are old favourites like Alan with Spiridon Louis and the only bitch left in the Derby, Dilemmas Flight.  I had a bit of a time following the marathon runners last year, Headiton Jordan and another whose name I forget embarrassingly!  That's the thing about the dogs, there are so many to keep track of.

I also will be following my syndicate dog Mo Ghuna when she's back on track at Crayford after a seasonal rest.
theGoingStick

Well Hotdog Jack was lucky to win that.
theGoingStick

I've just seen my first greyound fall at a hurdle, it's nothing like when a horse falls. Just got straight up and carried on    I guess you don't see too many injuries whilst jumping with the dogs ?
theGoingStick

Well first shock of the night Kildare Lark out of the champion hurdle.
theGoingStick

Toosey Blue out, Tyrur Laurel appeared to have won one that well. But I guess the next heat is more competitive
westmeadhawk

I have planned that Loyal Honcho will benefit from T1 & 2 scrapping for the 1st bend
alansouthcoast

Toosey Blue was the last wide seed.
theGoingStick

I'm having a small lay on Tyrur Kieran.

Bet landed but poor old Barnfield on Air was pushed out of it.

You read my article then good pick with Honcho. i thought Seanis lad may have broken quicker. the finals all down to the draw in my opinion, and the one box has a terrible record.

As always Alan

Best of all two of my ap pick are in the final - I may have a small YAY
theGoingStick

I take it that's a bad draw for Tyrur Kieran.
westmeadhawk

He's been killing it out of the box seat throughout so 3 is going to be a whole new ball game.

Honcho for the win I think!
alansouthcoast

I have three in the final, not hard as i backed about 75 dogs !!

Tyrur Laurel gets me level
Loyal Honcho makes £15 profit.
Lenson Express winns me around £950, I may claw some back from Betfair if he is under 10s but i cant see it.

  for luck!
theGoingStick

Here's the bluesq odds for the final :-

Kryptonite   3/1
Lenson Express   50/1
Tyrur Kieran   11/4
Loyal Honcho   5/2
Tyrur Laurel   11/4
Blonde Dino   10/1

Looks very open.
theGoingStick

What do we reckon Hotdog Jack in the champion hurdle ?
alansouthcoast

I wouldnt lay it, its possibly too classy for the rest of them, plus the favourites are having a great night.
theGoingStick

You know it's a big night the sky sports presenter is wearing a bow tie

He's on the drift big time on betfair he is nearly evens.
westmeadhawk

4 dog seemed to put up a solid performance LTO - might improve some again over the sticks
alansouthcoast

id still rather take evens than lay it
alansouthcoast

Good call about Hot Dog... The four dog only just got beat too.
westmeadhawk

alansouthcoast wrote:

Damn
theGoingStick

I knew something was up with Hotdog Jack, things on betfair don't drift from 1/2 to evens without a good reason. He didn't show enough early pace to get him straight to the front.
theGoingStick

Bugger I just backed Spiridon Louis, what a shocker
westmeadhawk

Me too - I should have stayed in Spain!
theGoingStick

westmeadhawk wrote:

Did you see the replay of him trying to anticipate the break ? Very clever dog, didn't quite work out though but I've bet he has won races because of that tactic.

He is in another league GS, however I fear the stiffness he has suffered from previously is now catching up with him permanently.  I think we may have seen the best of him although I sincerely hope not

Clever dogs are what keep me enthralled, the Hawk was more knowing IMO than many people you meet
lenahan

trap 1 kryptonite or trap 5 tyler laural for me in the greyhound derby in 15 minutes.....

Dutching both 6/1 and 3/1 respectively on betfair !
westmeadhawk

Honcho and Dino for me

GL everyone!
theGoingStick

I can see why you like that, with horses you have jockey's to do the steering with dogs they learn the tactics themselves which is quite something.

I've laid Loyal Honcho, I've got about 3 dogs going for me.

I think Tyrur Laurel will win it.
westmeadhawk

Laid the Honcho GS - how could you?
FallonFacta

Apparently there's a dog called Kieren - It's spelt wrong but    It's as good a reason as any to lose a bit of cash!

Could be regretting it in 10 minutes

Regretting it now
westmeadhawk

OMG - I'm stunned HONCHO wins and DINO was magnificent in 3rd after that bump at the first.

I hope Lenson Express is ok though.

Well played westmeadhawk

They said Lenson Express completed the course so he's fine.

Thanks GS - no sound - I am far too excited for sound, it would tip me over the edge

There will be other years, I'm sure the trip to Spain took the edge off it
westmeadhawk

More like the euros off it

TBH I've been for heats, but the crowds and all make me a bit wary of the final night without security lol
