Keep getting logged outThis is getting quite annoying - it used to be I'd stay logged in for ages but the last cuople of days I've been getting logged out in the time it take to read the forum, do a bit of "looky uppy" and compose a reply.. I hit the send button and get asked to log in, and of course all my careful thought has vanished
Zit me?

Rowan:
1. Have you clicked the little box that says "keep me logged in" or equivalent on the login page? If not, you will be logged out every time you "leave" the forum. Sometimes that little box gets unclicked for no apparent reason (I have had this myself). So check it out next time you log in.
2. Sometimes this is caused by your internet connection dropping out (even broadband, as I have reason to know). Check that your connection isn't dropping out for a few seconds, particularly at busy times (what ISP are you using?)
3. Mach, nice to know you're not having that problem - it can be frustrating for people who do though, so don't gloat!
4. Otherwise, I will leave it to the real IT gurus as opposed to just the pretend ones.....

Again I'm no IT experct but I always copy my message once I've typed it so if things are playing up you can just paste rather than re-type the whole thing!

If they're not alerting you to new PMs I'd do a check for spyware.

Thanks Jenny, but I'm not navigating away from the page at any time. I don't click the "keep me logged in" as I have firefox set to clear all my personal data when I quit out and that erases it! It's never made any difference before.
It could be my connection (Plusnet).
I suppose the other culprits could be a) changing firewalls or b) an upgrade to NoScript. I'd guess the latter as I changed firewalls on Sunday and the problem only kicked off yesterday, when I upgraded NS.
If it carries on I'll uninstall NS and see if it makes a difference.

Normally you should stay logged in, unless you navigate away from the board for more than an hour. BT used to drop the connection if the pc was unactive for a certain amount of time. I am guessing your recent changes are the answer Rowan.

I think you use firefox, I'm not too familiar with the browser but has there been a new security update for it or any updates to your security software.
The forum stores your "always keep me logged in" settings in a cookie, it sounds as though the browser is having trouble either creating or keeping it in your browser cache. Sometimes security software see's cookies as malicious files and deletes them on sight.

True TGS, but the cookie issue would not eplain why Rowan is getting logged out after a while.

It will lead to the reason though as the contents of it identifies your session when browsing the forum. If that disappears then it means your not logged in anymore.
It's quite common for security software to see cookies as something bad, this is because they can be used to track your web usage (e.g. log the sites you've visited for marketing purposes, store your details etc). Rowan posted whilst I was posting I've no idea what Noscript is but it seems fishy that it was ugraded and the forum started behaving differently.

Rowan, have you tried this with no script ? Maybe this is whats causing your problem.
| Quote: | | You can enable JavaScript, Java and plugin execution for sites you trust with a simple left-click on the NoScript status bar icon (look at the picture), or using the contextual menu, for easier operation in popup statusbar-less windows. |

Yes, I have the site set as being trusted, so I don't think it's that.
It's possible something is eating the cookie but I've not noticed the same problem anywhere else (yet!).

I don't know if this will work, but restore your computer to a point prior to the prog that you are suspicious of and see if that works, otherwise google the symptoms, I doubt whether you are the only one to have the problem and there might be a solution.

Bizarrely it doesn't seem to have happened at all yet today.. maybe it was a wobbly internet connection.
