A departure from home shores today, with a delightful trip across to the Emerald Isle. Shelbourne Park stages a big meeting tonight, as it gets ready for the Irish Derby which starts soon. I will give my thoughts on that, once the entires are announced but i must say i am keeping my fingers crossed that Ninja Jamie will be fit enough to take part. Back to tonights card though, and one race leaps out at me.
9.05 sees a mouthwatering clash between Loyal Honcho and Tyrur Laurel. I must say my head says Honcho but my heart screams Laurel the draw could favour Honcho in T5. laurel goes from T3 and being a wide runner she could cause problems for the others out wide, if hitting the bend first. Lets not forget these two dogs were joint favourites for the English Derby, where Honcho ran superbly and laurel got a bad bump at the first bend. Laurel also beat Barnfield On Air on the way to the final, and was beaten favourite in last years Irish Derby, if i recall correctly, only to be beaten by kennelmate Tyrur Rhino. Major problems on the outer could allow Rio Quando to slip through on the inside. Laurel may need a race or two to get fully fit, but i am hoping she will go close today, at a tasty looking 5/2 with PaddyPower. Loyal Honco will be hard to beat and it should be a great race.

Update....... Carnage at the first yet again. Loyal Honcho and Tyrur Laurel both got bumped and sure enough one of the inside traps missed all and won. It wasnt Rio Quando though, it was trap one whose name escapes me.
Two points lost and the new running total is now +11.72 points
