Derby day at Shelbourne has finally arrived, with the 161 entrants being whittled down to just 6. Last week we had a shock with College Causeway being elmimated, and a disappointment with Express Ego going out. It should still be a cracking final though, as there are some decent dogs left in. One thing that puzzled me last week was that in the last four, the one dog finished last. I am wondering if there may be a bias as the night wears on.
9.20 sees the consolation final, suitably, Express Ego runs in this, and maybe its consolation time for us. Yet again the others will be running on, but Ego could be away and gone. This dig is very consistent and at 9/2 with Hills i will take another chance.
9.40 and its the final, to be honest this race looks very open, a fast start will be essential, as these can all go well. Advantage Johnny was brilliantly quick in the semis, and he will need to be again to win this. The six box will give him a great chance of a clear run, the problem is that Slip The lark may also go off fast and hit the bend in front. Headley Bridge in trap one could just as easily ping out and go clear, as could Ballymac Russo in trap two. My pick though is Shelbourne Ashton in trap three, who finishes very fast. If close up off the last bend, he should win. Hills go 4/1 which seems over generous to me.

Thanks Jenny, i had tipped the winner of the consolation race at 100/1 outright for the final weeks ago. This makes up for it.
