Mick The Miller - Issue Twentythree - 6/09/08Its Deja Vu time, back to last weeks tip Express Ego Again running across the sea in Dublin. Shelbourne Park stages the semis of this years Irish Derby, twelve dogs left and the favourite being College Causeway Incidentally, i said at the atrt wide dogs had a great chance as there were so few. Five from 26 have reached the last 12, out of 161 entries.
Here we go then, a run down on the ASC guide to losing the plot.
HEAT ONE 9.40
Trap One Cashen Zig...not the fastest starter and with two quickies in two and three, he may not make the bend
Trap Two Ballymac Ruso....Quick away and should hit the bend first, unless one pings out. A great price at 3/1 with Totesport
Trap ThreeMachu Picchu... Another fast dog, fast dogs on either side, but four may move wide. Chances hinge on beating two to the bend and trouble on the outside. I wouldnt dismiss taking 20/1 though
Trap Four Wise Thought....Can go wide at the start, i have a feeling the outside dogs may get in each others way. I can see this one coming off worse.
Trap Five Slip The Lark....Fast early, must be feared with a clear run. A possible for outright winner also.
Trap Six Mid West Blue.... Fast all round psace, especially down the back straight. Needs a clean run race and will qualify if getting that.
Selections.... If its a clean run race, i see it being 2-5-6
HEAT TWO 9.55
Trap One Express Ego...Traps fast and in my opinion is the best railer in either heat. Todays problem is all the others will be coming late. With a clear this dog will qualify and any trouble behind will win today.
Owes us nothing and is a massive 14/1 with Corals and Hills. I am praying he qualifies as i tipped him up each way @ 100/1
Trap Two Headley Bridge...A wonderful dog, starts, stays, cant rule out, niggling doubt about him getting a clear run though, the one dog may steal his thunder.
Trap Three Shelbourne Ashto....runs well and finishes very very fast, the problem is he may be stuck behind the dogs inside and not get a gap.
Trap Four College Causeway......Antepost Favourite and rightly so, no easy races from here on in though. Doesnt have the best draw and his all round pace will be needed to win this. Along with three and six he will be finishing fast, it may be too late though
Trap Five Advantage Johnny....The trainer though he had picked up an injury last week, hopefully he is fit, but that, and the draw, may prove too much. Seems to have tired in recent races and maybe this trip is a tad too far.
Trap Six The Other Sonic.... Comes with a rattle at the end, the five dog may cause problems though. Needs to be infront of 3 and 4 at the last bend to hold any chance of qualifying 1-2-4

Footnote.....Kilhalan Phanter came through his operation okay, after last weeks crashing fall, and the vet thinks he may even race again.
