We've pulled the thread as there were accusations on it that we are unsure about and unsure whether they should be left on the open forum. If you feel that's an over reaction, well you're welcome to hold that view, but we're still going to take a closer look at the thread.

This forum was set up so as to avoid the sheer nastiness and troublemaking that overtook the BBC. If you think you can post whatever you like on this forum regardless of common sense, the guidelines, the possibility that we might be sued for libel or provocativeness, then you are wrong. It is a private forum with rules that are clear to all, and its main purpose was to try and avoid just the sort of problems that caused the BBC forum to be closed.

We have reviewed the Jade Goody thread. If you think it's acceptable to call someone, whatever your personal opinion of her, a "media whore", "annoying voice, irrittating personality and screwed up face. Just because she's dying doesn't change that", "famous for getting her kebab out and being a racist", "racist, talentless chav" then maybe this forum isn't for you.

We let this thread run for a lot longer than some recently removed threads mainly due to the negative comments that we get when locking a thread. We were leniant this time and look where that got us. Complaints about removing the thread and complaints about not removing it soon enough!

As has been said many times - we are not professional moderators. We do this is our own time, we use our own opinions and we do this because most of us wanted to be involved in a new forum after the downfall of the BBC.

This forum is three years old this weekend. Lots of posters and mods have put a lot of work into this place and it is on their behalf that we'd like to say if you don't like this forum and the way it is modded please vote with your mouse and go elsewhere. There are many other forums available. BBC's still open, jej's still going, betfair... the list is endless.

Sorry to be blunt but this has to be said - And one of the main reasons we are saying it now is because there's a little festival coming up that we don't want ruined by constant arguing.

Bit suprised to find my Jane Goody thread gone when i looked in today at 6.15 pm ,had only seen the first couple of posts and thought it would run for a long time ,mainly cause its a story which will stay on the front pages of the nationals for a long time as its such a compelling but also tragic story.
Cant comment on pulling its as i never got to read the contents but can see where you are coming from

Jenny asked people on the thread to calm it down, or the thread would get pulled. It didnt calm down so the thread was pulled. Some of you may feel the comments and insults between users were okay. The mods, collectively felt otherwise.

To reiterate FallonFactas point, this Forum was started because many of us didnt like the way the BBC was being moded, or not moded to be exact. The guidelines are clear enough, so hopefully people will stick by them.

Sky makes a good point about why some threads get left and others dont. What happens, as I have explained who knows how often, is the mods have a debate about any content and make a decision on what to do next. I guess we should pull more threads than we do, for libel purposes, yet we try and let as many run as possible. Like FF says, and I hate to say this, no one is forced to use this Forum if they are unhappy with how its run.

Surely we are still allowed to voice our opinion if we disagree, which is all I did last night, to my mind in an articulate and non-offensive manner.

To be answered with "If you don't like it, get lost" is a little over-sensitive in my opinion.

We don't have to agree all of the time do we???

I am satisfied with whatever decisions the mods come up with, but that doesn't mean I don't want to make a comment, and shouldn't be stopped from doing this, as long as I remain within the guidelines.

Final comment on this.

I agree with Sky that there are often comments made on many threads that do not get pulled. Surely that is a good thing as none of us are angels, and expressing opinion is what it is about.

Sky, you were not offended by the comments made, but I was! Doesn't mean one of us was right, or wrong, differing opinions that is all again.

Jenny asked for it to calm down, I had to go out shortly after and didn't see how things went from then but obviously it hadn't. I take some responsibility for it getting heated and maybe I should just keep my mouth shut but that's another story.

My final point is, that the mods do this for nothing and we all benefit hugely from this place, as the beeb was shocking, and still is in it's new format for allowing WUM's and idiots ruining it for most of the others. I think we should give the mod's a bit of respect here. I have said it before and sure they make mistakes but at least they own up to it when they do and without them this place would be gone. It does not mean they are unaccountable, just that giving them a hard time when they are in a difficult position on a legal, let alone moral basis is not fair really. They don't have to do this!

It must feel to them that we are a bunch of boisterous kids, just waiting to have a fight or pour treacle over Geordie's head (oops did I say that out loud?

) and they go from one brawl to the next. We all have a responsibility to post within guidelines, and when things go too far they have no choice but to act. Fair play to them I say.

Jezza has hit the nail on the head. What one person finds offensive, others may not, and vice versa. This is the difficulty Mods have with operating the board. It is also the reason some of you dont like how we do things. That said, we have a better board than 606 or Betfair so we must be doing something right.

I haven't been around much because it's half-term. I wonder what I've missed on the board when I'm away. I am really saddened to see some of the debate on the now removed thread.

I've been spending time with my kids and that's something Jade and her sons don't have much time left to do, no matter how much money is in the bank.

Perhaps it's just as well I'm in diluted form this week.

or the motivation for their actions. The reason
this board is such a success is that the Mods do a very
good job helped in a big way by mature
and selective posting.
There is good fun and banter here
but certain subjects are going to
be contentious by nature.
There has to be a code of conduct
at any meeting or club socially
or politically and this is a meeting
of minds online and should be subject
to the same rigours. To be fair there
is a good degree of leeway given and
I'd hate to think we might descend

Now I know the mods have a tough job etc etc, but they locked the Jade Goody thread but seem to be quite content to leave what a lot of people would consider sick jokes on the joke thread.

I like to think I've got a sense of humour, but there was nothing on that thread as disgusting as the calendar to March "gag", and the ebay "gag".

I'm absolutely repulsed by this as would anyone who has had to deal with this disease first hand.

The Jade Goody thread was lively debate. Those jokes are sick.

Get your priorities right.

You assume none of us have had to deal with the issue. My father was diagnosed with lung cancer, rather than chose a hospice we decided to keep dad at home. I spent six months nursing him in between ten hour a day shifts. Today is the aniversary of his death. So lets not assume no one else has dealt with with this in real life.

As for the jokes, I did see them, and didnt like them. Thats not unusual for me, I dont find several of the joke topics funny. Do we police whats said and whats not ? If so half of you would be up in arms. If you had simply pm`d a complaint we would have deleted the posts anyway. As it was the jokes have been on the forum for 3 weeks plus and no one has complained.

As for the original jade goody thread, I am suprised you deemed some of the personal comments aimed at her to be okay.

BHL. We censor stuff all the time. We also listen to complaints about posts we may have let go. The problem with jokes is some people dont like jokes about one subject but dont mind about another, and vice versa. It would be impossible for us to please everyone all the time.
