Well, it feels kind of weird that it's happened on the first day at the course that made him a star.
If I see Claisse or Gillespie I might suggest the race-naming thing.

Just thought I'd log on before I went up to the course - to this news.
Tragic that he could not have the retirement he so richly deserved.
Farewell Inglis - a true great.

One of my absolute favourites, an absolute superstar.
Sad end but hopefully he didn't suffer unduly.

Oh no! What terrible news. Echo others sentiments on here that it's a shame he couldn't have had an enjoyable retirement.
RIP Inglis - wonderful horse.

i don't really know anything about racing but i think it's human nature to just fall in love with certain types of race horses. kauto star, mastercraftsman, sea the stars, the one i first really liked because he won the king george when i was there in an epic finish and i was on him - hurricane run.
and, obviously, inglis drever. i'd had a bet on him for his third world hurdle, and was watching it in the office and watching him refuse to be beaten on that hill with all of cheltenham going wild and the lads in the office going crazy too. fantastic stuff.
when even a racing idiot like me knows and loves a horse you know he was a good'un.

I heard this news from Rowan at Cheltenham (thanks Rowan, though horrible news in other respects). It was a lovely day (most unlike the last time I saw him win the WH) and I had a great day, both from the racing and punting perspective. But every time I went out to the stands, and looked down the course, I remembered him battling his way to the front, not to be denied his wins. Particularly the last one. where everyone thought he was cooked until the last half-furlong.
Great days, great times, great horse.

Yeah, I know what you mean; it was the right place to remember him steaming up that hill. And sorry to be the bearer... I was chatting to a couple of the groundstaff who were doing the paddock for his last win, they hadn't heard (I guess most people were already at the course working when it was announced). Did enlist them in my "campaign"... and I was pleased to see a comment from Gillespie later that they were thinking about ways to honour him and would be talking to Ladbrokes - maybe I did get the word round enough people

RIP Drever, you were such a *Star*
I will always remember him and the love his lass showed for him, plus like a few of you have already mentioned...her singing him up the hill....'Is it a monster, no its Inglis Drever'!
Feel so sorry for her and everyone who cared for him, thoughts for them and all his fans.
