scottish derby

here are my picks for the scottish derby

meenala crusier @ 16-1 - holds the 5th top time in 08 and a good trial time last week at the derby track.

Kylegrove Top   @ 33-1 - This price is too good for the dog that has the fastest time in 08

both @ 2 pts each way (1,2,3,4) 8 pts total

also one i'm not sure on is droopys obafem.

i think boa is a class dog but i'm looking at dogs without boa for the derby it only takes a knock or for him not to ping and its someone else's.
alansouthcoast

This is a really odd competition in as much as there are 8 five dog races with the first 3 qualifying. That leaves 4 six dog races for the 1/4 finals ect ect. So your pick only has to get placed in the first three, each round, to reach the final.

Catbiscuit has my highest respect and really knows his stuff. I fear his selection Kylegrove Top is in the hottest race of the night in heat 4.

Affleck Elite is drawn in one and often starts fast
Loyle Honcho, 4th in the antepost betting is in two
Kylegrove Top is in three
Dotland Hitman is in five, i dont know much about this dog
Toosey Blue is consistent and has the six box.

I really make this the hardest heat of the night so its good luck to KyleGrove Top. Afflick Elite is a big price outright (50/1) and could get clear and avoid any trouble.

Heat one also has a clash between big guns when ante post fav, Barnfield On Air takes on Bubblys Totti, i expect both to qualify though.

Tyrur Laurel, Irish Derby third goes in heat two and along with Highfield Hondo and Barnfield Mike should qualiify.

Farloe Reason, antepost 2nd fav will qualify from heat five. Likewise Cleanas Lady from heat eight.

There are some super dogs in this such as Clash Harmonica, Calzaghe Ted, Droopys Obafemi and Meenela Cruiser,  That i havent even mentioned. I also apologise for not knowing the form of any of the Shawfield dogs, as local dogs often run well.

Time to pick and as much as i hate leaving any out. Tow bets outright.

Tyrur Laurel 4 points win @ 12/1
Highfield Hondo 2 points E/w 1/4 odds first four
westmeadhawk

I haven't looked yet.  I am worrying about Clash Harmonica being ok already.
catbiscuit

according to a fellow poster on gk forum Tyrur Laurel has been out of the top 2 since june last year. So maybe well worth a punt alan @ 12-1.

on a side note sky bet are doing him at 8-1 and bet365 are @ 12's cant beleive the 4 point differance!
alansouthcoast

Catbiscuit, i wonder how many punters read Tyrur Laurels form ? One run here at Sunderland, as i recall. Her Irish form including the Derby 3rd is not even mentioned on some web sites
westmeadhawk

I am still playing Johnny come lately on this!

BOA set to trap in about 2 mins...

20.35 T2 Loyal Honcho
21.01 Farloe Reason
21.14 T1 Pond Galileo

is as far as I have got.  GL to all!
westmeadhawk

19.57 6 beats 5 - BOA 3rd.  Some nice prices around on Betfair - 5s for the 6 dog.
westmeadhawk

According to the comms on another site, the racing is delayed and dogs are coming off distressed - not good at all

Edited to add: seems the track is running too quick.  I hope the dogs that have run so far are ok.  Don't know how they would be able to resume tonight.  A total disaster.
westmeadhawk

Confirmed - abandoned OMG what hope is there

I really hope that those that raced recover ok.
westmeadhawk

I've read on BF that BOAs connections are kicking off in the paddock as the dog came off very distressed - reportedly almost collapsed.  I am so shocked and I do hope no lasting damage has happened but I fear the worst.

Lawsuits I expect if so.  Oh dear oh dear, more bad publicity
FallonFacta

Sounds nasty -    -  What's going on??

I thought dogs ran on a sort-of AW track?? Do they change that much?
FallonFacta

I know what they say on betfair might be horrible but try take it with a pinch of salt.

- Kauto's been put down half a dozen times according to them!

Hi FF, everyone is on the Man U game!  I am getting the info from a more reliable source, a guy doing commentary not for BF!  It's been raining solidly up there for a few days and the wet can make the tracks run faster (like wet sand sort of thing).  However it should not be allowed to become dangerously fast due to the harrowing.  TBH I don't know what's gone wrong but there were problems in getting the event on at all and this is just dreadful for the venue and the sport, but most particularly for those dogs that have probably run too fast for their own good.
FallonFacta

Poor things - let us know what's happening if you hear anymore
westmeadhawk

Thanks FF - the latest from the RP site - we will wait to see how the dogs are but no immediate emergencies it would seem now.  Let's cross fingers etc.  Actually I don't think they should continue.

Shawfield postponed on vet advice: three heats completed, rest Thursday
Peter Meldrum reports
The first round heats of the ibetX Scottish Derby at Shawfield Tuesday night were dramatically called off on veterinary adviceafter just three were run on a track rated some two seconds slow. However, many questioned whether the meeting should have got that far.
Conditions at the Glasgow track, which has been running quickly in recent weeks, were extremely testing after heavy rain penetrated a surface that had been ‘worked-on' the previous day.
With the rain showing no sign of relenting and the concerns of some trainers getting more vociferous by the second, the vet made the decision to abandon racing having inspected the course.
Racing manager William Reid said: “The track had been running on the quick side and it was decided to work it lightly in an effort to slow it down a touch.
“The weather forecast had been for light showers, but instead we had torrential rain throughout the day and that definitely had a detrimental effect on conditions.
“It's very disappointing for all concerned, but in an effort to complete the first round to the satisfaction of everyone, we've scheduled the remainder of the first round for Thursday evening. The second round will now take place on Sunday afternoon, with the semis on Wednesday and the final as planned on Saturday week.”
The inside of the track gave most cause for concern and can be viewed as a contributory factor to the shock defeat of ante-post favourite Barnfield On Air in the opener.
First to trap, he was surprisingly led to the bend by Zigzag Zipper, who was then passed at the third by Bubbly Totti who pulled away to win easily. The winner, however, recorded a pedestrian 29.77sec.
That time, though, was made to look slick when Paddy Power Irish Derby runner-up Tyrur Laurel won the following heat in 31.01sec and Killough Tale the third qualifier in 31.27sec.
Barnfield On Air's handler Sam Poots, one of the trainers to voice concerns about the going prior to racing commencing, said: “The track is disgraceful and they should have never allowed racing to start. He has had to run himself into the ground just to qualify and who knows how much that has taken out of him.”
alansouthcoast

This farce is a true disgrace to dog racing. It doesnt matter if the dogs were top notch or A11 graders, The meeting should have been cancelled on safety grounds.

Lister pulls out of Scottish Derby
The fallout from the abandoment of Shawfield on Tuesday after just three heats in the first round of the ibetX Scottish Derby had been completed on desperate going was felt in earnest when Charlie Lister withdrew his four-strong team from the competition which now resumes on Thursday.
Lister was not present in Glasgow as he was returning from holiday in Cyprus, but the five-time Scottish Derby winning trainer took the decision to curtail the campaigns of Affleck Elite, Clash Harmonica, Farloe Reason and Killieford Raven after consultations with owners.
He explained: “I thought four runs in 12 days was always going to be a vary tough schedule, four runs in nine days is simply too much to ask of a dog, especially when we don't know what conditions will be like.”
The withdrawals mean the re-run fourth heat tonight (7.57) will be for four runners only, as will heats five (8.10) and six (8.23), while only three are now set to go to traps for heat eight at 8.49.

I can't believe they will let BOA run again, but when money is involved you never know.  Absolutely delighted Clash Harmonica won't be running.  All credit to Lister and the owners.

theGoingStick

So if the heats go ahead I'm guessing Bubbly Totti is likely to win his ?
alansouthcoast

TGS Bubbly is nailed on to reach the semis. If i backed him Antepost i would be happy i guess. Im just wondering how the bookies will react to the ones withdrawn ? Will they be treated as rule 4 or as non runners ?
theGoingStick

I see Bubbly Totti is 8/11 to win his heat today. Is it worth bocking ?

Are the heats on Sky/tv today ?

Killough Tale
Tyrur Kieran
Blenheim Dubh
Tyrur Laurel
Kylegrove Top

yes that right no boa. i love the dog to bits but maybe 4 races in 9 days has took it out of him more so because he had to race when the track was crappy as well.
theGoingStick

Read in the paper this morning that the winners of the Scottish Derby semi finals get £150 in prize money, that's scandalous

Considering it costs thousands to sponsor an average horse race I may see if I can get a greyhound race named after me
alansouthcoast

According to the Betfair Forum Barney has been eliminated.

Tyrur Kieran
Loyal Honco
Killough Tale

Nice going Cat 3/3

The Scottish Derby Final 2008

Saturday 12th April 2008
480M
Winner £20,000 + Trophy & Presentation Jacket.
2nd £2,000

1 - Tyrur Lieran (P Hennessy Ireland)
2 - Kylegrove Top (J Bateson Unatt)
3 - Pond Gallileo (H Williams Newcastle)
4 - Killough Tale (G Frew Unatt)
5 - Loyal Honcho (m) (S Graham Ireland)
6 - Bubbly Totti (w) (T Soppitt Unatt)

no boa and no tyrur laurel, but my outside tip is (Kylegrove Top) @ 33 a good price now. apperently there was a clash and totti strolled it.
alansouthcoast

From reading the Betfair Forum 4 and 3 missed the break and collided at the first bend. I hope both dogs are okay.

Cat we both got 4/6 with our selections. I fancy Bubbli Totti for the final as the 6 box will help him. If Tyrur Kieran can reproduce a track record so quickly after todays run he must go close.
catbiscuit

tbh alan if i'd have known that bubbly totti use to be droopys totti then i would have backed him ante post i didnt know the bubbly syn had bought him. As i fancy him for the derby and @ 33-1 it might be worth jumping on now before sat.

i dont know where i'm going to get the race card from for sat as i dont think bf will do one (they didnt tonight) i might have to purchase the rp on sat when i take little fella to footy on sat morning.
alansouthcoast

I didnt know it was Droopys Totti either !

BRETT

friends of mine have an interest in KILLOUGH TRAIL.They've got £250 e/w at 50/1 for the derby and have told me that if he breaks like he did in the first round he will take a fair bit of catching in the final.has missed the break the last 2 rounds and might well have snuck under the radar.take it for what you will.
alansouthcoast

Thanks Brett, i think Killough Tale has a tough draw. Much will depend on how they have recovered from so much racing.
catbiscuit

flying winner

i'm going to tip a dog for tomorrows card just incase i dont do a vue from the zoo tomorrow (depends if i can get a RP or a race card and if i can tear myself away from mario kart):

21.25 670m Ibetx.com Stayers

1 Go Edie Honda (G J Hutt, Unatt)
2 Princess Rhys (A Mccaw, Shawf)
3 Ronaldos Magic (A C Reid, Shawf)
4 Flying Winner (C T Lund, Hull)
5 Home Flash (w) (J Bateson, Unatt)
6 Rough Rose (w) (P J Rosney, Notts)

is fantastic dog and is a VERY good at long distances expect to see FW clash with spiridon louis in the very near future, which in my view would be a cracking race. Has been spoken about on the two other forums i go on (BVowners.com and greyhound data)

here is its race record:

RACING POST
[Greyhound Section: Page: 73.]

Winners fly in trial..

FLYING WINNER proved her well-being with a smart 29.54sec (+30) trial over 500m before racing at Sheffield on Saturday night.

Reported bruised when being cannoned-into at the pick-up after taking her unbeaten British record to four at Belle Vue recently, Chris Lund's bitch clocked the fastest time at the pre-race session.

However, future plans are said to be fluid, so it remains to be seen whether she is aimed at Hove's Coral Regency.

The 695m event won last year by Spriidon Louis, starts next week, and was said to have been her first big target prior to the Belle Vue mishap.

Thanks for the info catbiscuit

And also to Brett - I have lost the plot with the dogs the last fortnight so I will pay attention to these two.

Blimey seems as though all the board is going to be on Bubbly Totti tonight. Is it being shown on Sky par chance ?

yes mate not sure of the channel. get on it while the price is at 4-1 sure to drop.
theGoingStick

Well done supporters of Tyrur Kieran looked to have won the race well enough. I guess it was really obvious as he broke the track record in the heats, unable to see the wood from the trees type of situation

I put a few pounds on Bubbly Totti in the end and he got a galant second, so had a good run for my money.
alansouthcoast

I didnt see the race, but Tyrur Kieran broke fast and missed the chaos at the first bend.
