Birmingham city v Vile FC (it would be the best if we ever one one)
Celtic v Rangers (because they hate each other so much)
Liverpool vs Everton (because the love each other so much)
Man utd v Man city (Shows the little team can win)
Arsenal vs Spurs (Two teams that can not defend)

The two biggest without doubt are:
Liverpool/United & Celtic/Rangers
They are two of the bigger ones on the world stage to go along with the Milan Derby, Real/Barca, Boca/River Plate and a few others etc so they are easily the big two derbies in this country imo.

The good old M69 derby.. Cov vs. Leicester is always a fun one as is any between midlands clubs!
Having said that its Manchester, Old Firm and Merseyside above all.

united?
leeds?
newcastle?
cambridge?
liverpool's derby is v everton
the game v man u isnt a local derby its just a game between two near neighbours who think they are more important than the other team in their respective cities imo

I think it depends on where you live. Celtic v Rangers probably, Linfield v Glentoran in Belfast is pretty competitive, Lazio v Roma and Milan v Inter are pretty vitriolic as is Besiktas v Galatasary.
But as I say, depends on where you live.

Norwich vs Ipswich(The Old Farm)- Means an awful lot to everybody in the counties of Norfolk & Suffolk who have an interest in football whether they support the respective teams or not.
Arsenal vs Spurs- I like this derby as it is not as fierce as most but retains all the passion
Celtic vs Rangers- One of the biggest games on earth
Sheffield Wednesday vs Sheffield United- A bigger derby than a lot of people outside the steel city realise
Man Utd vs Man City- `Not a lot to say about this game that hasn't already been said

Of course it was Manchester United FC.
There are many derbys where teams are not in the same city. The north east derbys are just that. There is hardly any distance at all between the liverpool and mancheter metropolitan areas with them merging together. The city centres are under 30 miles from each other on the motorway. Many teams are involved in multiple derby matches. There success, history and location all combine to make this fixture a massive derby.
I would expect everton or city fans with an inferiority complex to argue that this is not a derby but i think most people would certainly agree that it is.
Of course the respective derbys against everton and city are big games as well but to imply this game is not a derby and one of the worlds biggest is abit wide of the mark.

Think most derbies can be classed as top, depending where you are from.
As with GR, dont class the Liverpool Man United game a derby at all, just 2 cities who dont get along.
Celtic v Rangers must be the top one for all the history behind it and especially with the religious bigotry that comes with it.
The way that the Merseyside derby is portrayed makes me laugh with all this 'all mates travelling down together and sitting next to each other' The hatred that exists between the 2 now is borderline ridiculous.
Had to laugh this morning. In Liverpool there is a huge new shopping centre called Liverpool 1. Liverpool has their sports store there and now Everton has just opened their and have called it Everton 2.
So there address will be Everton 2 Liverpool 1.
Hats off to the marketing men at Everton for that one.

The subject of what is and isn't a derby is an interesting one. For example Norwich vs Ipswich is very much a derby but they're 60 miles apart. However, like MT & Geordie, I would not consider Liverpool vs Man Utd a derby even though the distance between the two clubs is a lot less than that. In rural areas the distance has to be greater as there's nothing else.
Having said that, if Barcelona - Real madrid is considered a derby(which it is) then I suppose you could consider Newcastle vs Portsmouth one on that basis

Despite the press talking of the North London derby, Chelsea V Spurs is way more intense. If we only won two game a year, this would be them.

Alan, do most Chelsea fans think that? Do you not think that most Arsenal and Spurs fans would say they would rather win the North London derby than their respective games against Chelsea?
For me if I was given tickets for any British derby of my choice it would be Rangers V Celtic.

All Chelsea fans think that, if you know any, ask them. I am sure they will say the same as me. The hatred for Spurs is unreal, while many will happily watch Fulham if Chelsea are playing away.
I cant speak for every Spurs fan, but the rivalry at these games beats anything I have seen at other Chelsea/London club games, except maybe trips to Millwall. It all started after the 1967 cup final. So maybe Arsenal are the more traditional rivals, with Chelsea being the more hated.
Roll on Sunday, I just hope we can out play the team bus.

celtic v rangers is nowhere near as good anymore. especially since they all kick off at 12 these days.
over the last couple of years i've seen roma v lazio, and boca v river plate, and both of these are country miles ahead of anything britain has to offer.

On the subject of more traditional vs more hated, there has probably been more animosity at Rangers/Aberdeen games, possible Celtic/Aberdeen too, than in the Old Firm match over the last decade.
Takfab is right about the Old Firm, both sides have made some efforts to reduce the bigotry aspect - hasn't totally succeeded but it is nowhere near as wild as it used to be.

you'll beat us at the Bridge and we'll beat you at WHL and Wembley... just like the new normal! At least we can now beat Chelsea though after years of not... 2 points seems to be the best haul we can get from Arsenal even when we dominate both games!
