Where would you like the competitions threads?????Some people may not have noticed but there has been a bit of a debate going on regarding where Competition Threads should be kept.
We have four options - No need to post if you prefer not to but please if you have an opinion please vote.
Poll to close on Sunday - Most votes is they way we'll set up the board. If it's a tie I'm STUCK!
1. As we were
2. As we are now
3. New option - Sub-forums on Racing and Football for the competitions
4. As we were + Old competitions stored on Competition Section

I have! Just didn't post. I think for me personally, a separate comps forum for all comps is tidier - I got in something of a muddle over all the comps going at the same time when LS started his Big Handicap comp, there were at least 2 for the Ebor meeting (top jock and naps) AND the usual weekend naps.
As a result, I forgot to enter some of them!
Am going to have to take a penalty for my second in the Grand Annual and probably will miss this weekend!!

I would like to see them in a separate competition section. I only ever see the competitions once they have started so don't get a chance to enter them. If they were in a separate section then I could check this and enter competitions (and lose!) at the beginning.
No-one should miss out on having a laugh at my selections!

I only use the golf one at the moment, so can only look at it from the golf point of view. Without the competition in there, it would often be very quiet and probably only a matter of time until someone decides to move it alongside the 'Other Sports'.
I know it doesn't help, but could you just leave the golf one where it is?
I notice that out of 21 people in the golf comp, only 10 have entered this week. It may not be due to the move, but thats a low turnout and I would hate for people not to find out.
(Its fair to say that people don't always read the notices at the top of the forums)

I prefer them being in the section relative to the comp, makes it easier in my opinion.

I agree, the new system is cumbersome compared to the previous system that was relatively simple.
Golf competition - golf forum, racing competition - racing forum.
Easy.

Hi Darren
Lets see how the results go on Sunday and we could look into Golf as a seperate issue if necessary. At the minute results say as we were so we might not need to do anything.
There's never been any thought of moving the Golf forum to General Sport. Don't worry about that. Tennis and Cricket together had about half of the threads that Golf has - which was why they were moved to General as Sub-Forums.

I'm sorry Archie - What do you suggest? A complete overhaul doesn't really suggest anything We've shown were open to suggestions but doing anything to affect horse racing but profit the other forums probably won't be happening.
This forum was started as a alternative to the BBC's Racing board - so that's what most of us are interested in. Off Topic gets a lot of posts too.
All I can say is if people want to get the other forums busier is post on them - Get the flags and people will read them.

Darren....Last weeks golf tourney only had 15 entries. This weeks comp doesnt start until friday either, as its a bank holiday weekend in the USA.
Archie..... FF is right, no matter what we do as Mods, we cant make people post. No one has given us an idea which may help the other Forums get busier. We had very little response when we asked people about writing Articles. This poll hasnt had much response considering how many members we have. Once the European games kick off in earnest the football will get busier.
There is also the fact that all the original users come from the BBC horse racing forum, thats why racing is the buisiest. Anyone with an idea that might work, and is practical to operate is welcome to post it here.

Archie, as you can see by the fact this section has been moved, we do listen to good ideas. I would also like to see the other sections used more and hopefully people will read this thread and start doing so

I think some of your comments Archie are a bit harsh. I think this forum needs nothing like a complete overhaul.
In fact, compared to 2 other forums I use, this one is positively blossoming compared to them. Advertising this place is difficult, but can be done on the BBC if anyone has got an unblocked username.

Personally I would like the comps left on the Forums to which they concern (ie Racing on racing forum etc).... With regards to low turnouts on the golf comps... That may be due to people being away on hollybobs... I personally havent posted any comp selections for a couple of weeks due that reason... Maybe it will pick up in Sep when the rugrats go back to School.....
To all of you (you know who you are) that run the comps... Many thanks for your efforts
Cheers

agreed
and indeed the current voting suggests that the users like it the way it was.....
I am not crawling here but I do think this is a well run forum, with people who are actually knowledgeable about and interested in the topics acting as moderators
this forum does not need a complete overhaul, or any overhaul IMHO. To g4t more posters, you need to tell your mates about it, get them involved. changing the set up won't affect that at all [and might just irritate those who are already here?]

To be honest i didnt think Archie was being harsh, just stating his view. He does make a valid comment about the other sections being underused, but i dont know what we can do to improve that situation.

"As we were" is looking like the winner - But 24 hours left to vote.
I'll change things around tomorrow according to the final result!

Why not leave it for a week or so and see if the numbers entering increase or decrease ? That would tell you which system was best.

As We Were wins with 40% of the votes.
Thanks to everyone who took time to vote.
I'll move things back around again now - Just hope I get threads back into the right forums!

sorry archie you seem to take offenc at everything i say....
I was questioning whether the people who use the board a lot might not find it irritating if it were "overhauled"
is that not a remote possibility?
