Oaks quarter-finals: Jazz Hurricane fastest, Blonde Jeannie goes better
Jim Cremin reports from Wimbledon

After only surviving by a short-head in the opening round, and on a night when some wild and wet weather seemed to assist the outside traps, fans of Blonde Jeannie picked up the weight sheet before racing and nodded vigorously. The John Mullins-trained and Mark Currell-owned bitch was down 0.5kg in weight.
Drawn trap one in the third quarter-final at WimbledonSaturday night, she was supported from 7-4 to 6-4F to be back to her best. And showing good early from a moderate break, she was, heading Dangerous Lady and Westmead Tina, who had challenged to that point, at the first turn.
Blonde Jeannie was then away and gone, scoring by a length in 28.86se, and with the promise of better to come with a fast break, and an encouraging draw in the second of Tuesday's semis, she will have the bookies running scared.
Deanridge Di went out after a slow start and third bend trouble.
The odds-makers also have reason to be fearful of Jazz Hurricane, fastest on the night with a convincing 28.75sec success in the last eliminator.
Rank outsider Lockdale Lady had flown out here, but Jazz Hurricane, easy in the market from 5-4 to 7-4J, was second up and powered ahead at the second bend, and although drifting wide off the fourth, kept up a typically strong gallop to score by almost two lengths from defending champion Dilemmas Flight (very wide first), with a staying on Millwards Summit going through third.
Jazz Hurricane, who has been such tremendous fun for owners Stefan Watson and David Abraham, ran third last year and most recently won Hove's Brighton Belle.
Trainer Derek Knight reported her a little sore after that, butsays she is in great shape now and at her peak.
Meenala Babe was eliminated here after being baulked and checked wide at the turn.
The opening semi went to Lethal Frankie, trained by Seamus Cahill for Lee Wiggins. Breaking well, she showed the best early to lead at the first and scored by nearly two lengths in 29.03sec
Favourite Miss La Barca, running from red, went out narrowly after being forced to check at the third.
The third quarter was over at the traps when Broadway Sizzler absolutely pinged the lids to make all, cutting the bend. Kilelton Rose and Shelbourne Laura (outpaced early) also qualified behind the 28.87sec winner.
Trainer Sean White said: "460m might have been a better trip for us, but we've laid her out for this, and it's a tremendous buzz to get her into the semis."

And on a side note Mike keeps doing the biz - surely he has to win the Greyhound of the Year

Spiridon Louis duly romps Essex Records Marathon
Spiridon Louis (1-7F) shook off a fifth turn bump to then power clear for a near nine lengths romp in the Essex Records.com Marathon final at Walthamstow Saturday.

I think this is on Sky on Tuesday and if so i will do an article. The second semi looks the best to me, saturday the outside traps were favoured. Although a couple of railers did qualify.

Westmead Tina has it all to do in heat one. I expect Broadway Sizzler to ping the lids again and jazz Hurricaine to follow hin round. The third place can go either to Tina or Shelbourne laura, both capable on the day

In heat two i cant see past Blonde Jeannie, Drawn well in one oif the wind and rain stays away. last years winner ( i think ) Dilemmas Flight should run well in six,  Kilelton Rose has a bad draw in four but should still make the final.

Damn scousers on the box i guess, so no doggies for us tonight.

Doh !!!!!!!!! I take it then that its my lot on sky

Which i dont have

Dilemmas Flight won her heat beating hotpot Blonde Jeannie.

Westmead Tina must have hung up her running shoes for the year now, finishing last!

Oh dear.
alansouthcoast

Take heart Jessica, Westmead Tina is just a pup and taking on the likes of  last years winner, who also made the Derby  final, getting eliminated in the semi`s isnt such a disgrace

I think she's tired now and earned a break!

I like the tale of the Sizzler and the fishmonger - however we can't have a sarf Londoner winning the Oaks can we

So I will stick with defending champess Dilemmas Flight.

And I think I can watch it on the gg.com dogs site as I don't have Sky.

Yippee
westmeadhawk

I am watching it on the gg.com stream - ok we don't have Gary Newbon and who is that serious fella with the glasses - but it suits me perfectly!

As Tina is out again at 8.00 I've backed her and I have T6 in the 7.40

edited to add:

T2 has it Ronnies Hustle and Alansouthcoasts selection

(T6 3rd I think)

9.10 race with Spiridon Louis

T4 Droopys Nelson got a blinding start and the rest could not get at him even over the 6 bends.  Louis looked out of it, but was a monster mowing the 4 down at the line - got there just after though.

Louis was crowded and half a second down at the bend. Eventually losing by a neck. Thats a six length lead he gave away !

Blonde Jeannie
