I'll never understand this National Hunt Lark  The national is back to being a lottery methinks!!

Howeverm I'm a big Venetia Williams fan and am happy for her

There are sometimes when we, as punters have to hold our hands up & say we were all wrong(well except Mach. Well done mate )

Totally against the trends.

I read that someone had £200 e/w on him, there are some fearless punters out there.

Betfair forum saying Comply or Die collapsed as well as Butler's Cabin?

Both ok after oxygen thankfully..

Thanks so much for that Rowan.

I guessed Butler's Cabin would need some oxygen after his race, he often does,
but I was fearing the worst when I heard that Comply or Die had collapsed too.

So sad about Hear The Echo.

Far from it. three of the seven shortest prices finished in the top four, and five of them in the top seven.

As for Mom Momes form lines, he did win at Cheltenham before Christmas and also has a Welsh national 2nd to his credit.

Well done to Mach

But to win in that style though he must of had a stone and upwards in hand because he doesn't seem to have ever performed anywhere near to that level on any of his previous runs. I'm trying to make sense of the result but think that I'll have to put it down as one of those things.

Our Morgan (18 months) had a big 50p each way on him.
As he was born on the 15th so he had No. 15.
Easy, when you follow that line of form

Not sure about that, looking back the only reason I had eliminated him was being French-bred. With 3 of the top 5 French I think that stat gets binned for next year!

Other than that had placed in a Welsh National and completed both Scottish and Aintree, went off fav for this year's Welsh too. Right age, weight under 11-1, won over 3m+, completed enough chases....oh the benefit of hindsight eh!

Apart from being french bred (a stat that always struck me as somewhat nebulous given their record in other staying chases, think their lack of winners had more to do with the french brush through the top style of jumping than anything inherent in breeding) Mon Mome fitted the majority of the trends imo. Since Hedgehunter blasted the 11st ceiling a few years ago I've been willing to forgive a couple of pounds over, especially seeing as Phil Smith was gagging for a plus 11st winner imo.

Ermm a bit fat no from me!

Despite running on his fave soft going all season he had done next to nothing...Take his latest run on soft ground in the midlands National, beaten out of sight...

The crazy thing is yesterdays ground was much quicker.

Well done to Mach for backing the horse...at least someone did.

I suppose the only "trend" which took a beating was the French breds, but they'd been knocking on the door in the past so that was going to happen at some stage. A fine performance too by My Will so hats off to Ruby and Nicholls for getting a big weight so close after a decent performance at Cheltenham. Nice to see CoD do well too...though you can't be enamoured with the way the horse has been campaigned through the winter...non trier?

Disappointed with Kinsella's positioning of Brooklyn Brownie as the horse didn't get a view of what was coming at the 2nd.....smack, down.

Rambling Minster....I guess the February race which he won did take it's toll (pay attention for next year), and the horses from that race who were eased a couple of furlongs from home finished fresh enough.....Character Building and Mon Mome

All in all, we shouldn't really have been shocked with the winner.....I even backed him for Chepstow. If you think a horse will win a decent race, then it often will...just not the one you originally thought.

Some of you may remember, my Mom loves Mon Mome and never misses him

Well done to Mon Mome and team and Liam yesterday, fantastic stuff and to my Mom who turned £4 into nearly £600

I agree, follow the horses that make you warm inside and give you that excited feeling when you see their name on the card, usually they do pay you back in time when you least expect it! & if they don't, then at least they have given you joy

He was more a less a trends fit as has been said. And as pointed out by lufc french breds have placed quite abit in recent years so it was fair to assume one would win soon enough. That was my thinking anyways.
I had him on an initial shortlist of about 13 from a trends fit but doing things this way i got rid of him soone enough so dont feel gutted thankfully. I got rid of him on weight and price which was perhaps silly but then any other year you can scrap those at 66/1 or higher.

well done the backers. Hope you followed your mum Gp
