Who cares if one horse starts 2 yards in front of everything else over the trip they go . . .
the jockeys, obviously, or they wouldn't all be trying to get a jump on the start!
The jockeys are told what to do before the race and they should do it. There was an article somewhere yesterday talking about how important the first few fences are, and being in front - whether it's so your horse can see clearly what's coming or so you can tack over to the inside as soon as possible.
There were some cracking quotes from the jockeys. I particularly liked Barry Geraghty - "that was a bit of an anti-climax".
Might be worth noting that James Reveley said Rambling Minster "didn't take to it".
maybe we need to look at the level of horsemanship?
in the old days - as can be seen from the movietone news and so on- the jockeys had them all lined up and stationary. _________________ Geordie_R

The days of 'gentlemen' riders! There was alot more resepect to officals in them days!
Also they used to line up behind a four or five lined barrier type flip start which I guess was rather hard to charge at!
