Just heard on ATR that frankie was asked to ride Look Here but Cochrane turned it down cos Campanologist was still entered and looked like running.Eddie Ahern gets the mount, frankie gets Conduit and the rest is history as they say. _________________ sticks & stones may break my bones but whips & chains excite me
Since Frozen Fire patently didnt stay, will they keep him at 1m4f and aim at the Arc, or will he go for the Breeders Cup ? I am sure Longchamp will suit FF better, as he can use the long straight to get going.
I don't agree with that for one minute Alan. The horse was beat coming around the bend and 4 furlongs from home JM was pushing the horse for more effort. The way he won the Irish Derby off a fast pace looked to me like he got 1m 4f easy and the step up would suit. JM could have stayed in Ireland to ride Septimus (a certain winner) but came over. He was even beaten by Hindu Kush!! They fancied that today so not sure what happened.
Conduit was a decent Listed winner before this race and nothing more. He stayed very well, but looking at the form of the race it wasn't a great Leger. Look here ran well but the setback obviously put paid to her chances. FF should have been closer at the 2f pole but was well beat by then before his stamina even came into play. It wasn't a fast pace either.
Well done to Sir Michael though, and another good choice by Ryan Moore

As i said before, O`Brien said he didnt think FF would stay, they ran him hoping he would see out the trip, there was no money for him though. There is still no form that says he will stay over more than 1mf4. Hindu Kush set a fast pace from the start, and near the end every horse was feeling the ground. I dont accept the fact that Murtagh rode FF as evidence they really fancied him either. That argument would hold water if it was just the one ride, but he was also on Westpahlia and US Ranger for the yard yesterday, as well as Honolulu and Golden Sword the day before. As for Septimus, he was a shoe in and any one of O`Briens jockeys would have won on him yesterday.
Something that worries me also is that FF seems to put in one good run and one poor run. Whatever the reason for this, its clearly been the case in his career so far.
I still stand by what i said, with the trainers doubts about FF staying, and a lack of form proving he would, then 9/4 was a very poor price to take. _________________ If at first you dont succeed..then skydiving isnt for you
It looked to me as though Frozen Fire and Look Here both didn't see out the trip. I wasn't really surprised by FF not seeing out the trip on breeding grounds, but Look Here was a bit of a surprise. _________________ Tricky Trickster - Grand National Winner 2010
It was probably a combination of stamina and ground conditions that was the undoing of Frozen Fire. The round course was almost certainly riding softer than the last couple of furlongs of the straight course.
The winner, both saw out the trip well, and had the requiste finishing speed to prevent anything being able to close fast enough in the final stages of the race. A worthy winner in the end. Dettori will be petitioning the BHB to move the Derby to Doncaster at this rate.
That Westphalia managed to win the first race, suggests that the ground was indeed only just on the easy side of good in the final couple of furlongs, as he doesn't handle soft ground very well.

I agree that 9\4 was a poor value price to take but I had an average of 8\1 so was pretty pleased with that. It obvously means nothing though now as he last :-)
Why would Hindiu Kush make it a fast pace if they didnt think FF wouldnt stay? O'Brien often says that about his horses but this horse was beat too far back to say it was simply that he didnt stay.
My impression of a horse not staying was Royal & Regal on friday. The horse was crusing till 2 out but then just didnt get home whereas FF was beaten 4f out. May have to agree to disagree!!!
Great stuff for Dettori and Stoute. I'm made up for the latter. Conduit was rather helped by the strong pace/ground combination but well done to those who backed him. Shame for Ryan - a tough call by all accounts and the first time I can remember him getting it so wrong.
Re Look Here - actually a pretty good run under the conditions. My first thought was that she emptied a bit - looked great 4 out but couldn't kick on. Mrs PT (who knows much more than me) is quite sure she didn't like the sticky ground in the home straight - she was picking her legs up very high. Doubt she'll go to the Arc - Beckett says probably not. The great news is they're keeping her in training so why risk her after ground like that. A/post bet for Arc 2009?????
Ballydoyle.... What the? Strong pace set at the front despite FF stamina doubts (not mine - O'Briens), maybe trying to set it up for one of the others? My first impression was that he really didn't stay 1m6f on the ground, my second that he's a horse to back at a long rather than a short price (currently 100-1 for the Arc on Bfair).
Note to self - to win money on the Leger just back the Voltiguer and Gordon stakes winners. They've got a hell of a record.... nearly as good as Oaks winners......
I didn't fancy Conduit at all, so well done anyone who got on there. Interesting how both the winner and second were betting negatives throughout the day.
I agree that FF did more than just not stay- never ever looked like being the winner. Really hard to assess how good that horse is.
Was the jockey's verdict on Look Here that she didn't stay? Looking forward to seeing her next year.
