I am sorry TGS and I dont mean to be mean but neither Evert nor Wade should be anywhere near the top 10 let alone the top 5. Evert was a fair player but got completely blown away by Martina when she came on the scene. She's a bit like a Mauresmo or somebody today. She wouldn't have stood a chance against.. lets see, off the top of my head:

S Williams
V Williams
Justine Henin
Monica Seles
Arantxa Sachez-Vicario
Maria Sharapova
Magaret Court

and as for Virginia

This really made me PMSLOL...

Firstly, Chris Evert above both Navratilova AND Steffi Graf?? Go on Wikipaedia mate and check out their career records...

followed by Virginia Wade at No.5??? ROFL

sorry but she wouldn't have won a game off either Martina or Steffi who were beasts...

you are of course entitled to think what you like

After re-reading it properly realised I didn't put them in any particular order

1. Martina Navratilova
2. Chris Everett
3. Steffi Graf
4. Billie Jean King
5. Virginia Wade

I included Giny Wade as there has to be a Brit in the top 5 and she's the only one I can remember.
im no fan of tennis, but anyone remenber that aussie tennis player with the aboriginal background,i remenber she got plenty of news coverage so im guessing she may of be very good and worthy of a mention, cant remenber her name thou.cheers archie.

Yvonne Goolagong was her name, think she won in Wimbledon in the 70s and has6 or 7 grand slams

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on that one most of the players in that list aren't fit to carry Chris Everts racket bag. Even if you hadn't seen any of them play the win ratio/no. of grand slams won would give that one away.

Not on talent or looks but because she won Wimbledon in the year of the Silver Jubilee against all odds

you are joking I hope. Her powder puff serve would have been crushed back at her by the Williams, Graf, Seles, Henin..she would have struggled to win a point on her own serve against those beasts let alone win a match. Check out what happened to her GS record after Martina came on the scene..

Sue Barker was a better player than Ginny and that tlls you all you need to know...

are we talking about the Greatest Female Players ever here? or just personal preference? If it's the latter then ok but if you are seriously ranking Evert (whose name you couldn't even spell correctly) above Steffi Graf then I am genuinely shocked. Graf would have beat her 6-1 6-0 on a bad day

Well that's a ridiculous way to compare these players, they played in different eras with different playing styles/training regimes. It's like putting Muhammad Ali and Lennox Lewis in the ring together, Ali would get battered from the stronger fitter man honed by our better knowledge of the human body and how to condition it.

Chris Evert dominated the US open and French open for years on end, none of the names you mentioned did that.

Well Martina is the greatest female player ever so that's expected.

One and the same aren't they, I don't think anyone has the correct answer to this question it's all down to your own personal judgement.

What sort of argument is that ?

You're right on that point it is a tight call, I split them on their career record stats in the end and not on titles won but I see your logic even though it's very flawed.

completely disagree with this Rick

Chris Evert was the number 1 ranked player for 7 years-she won 18 grand slam titles

her career win percentage record is .900

1)navratilova-18 majors

2)graffe-22 majors

3)margaret court-24 majors

4)chris evert-18 majors

5)monica seles-9 majors and career was cut short

6)billie jean king-12 majors

7)serena williams-7 majors

1 Margaret Court

2 Billie Jean King

3 Martina Navratilova

4 Maria Bueno

5 Maureen Connolly

vry hard to think of the right order for this..... Court was probably the greatest ever, but BJK canged the game for women and Martina moved the game to a whole new level
Maria Bueno and Little Mo were exceptional players who were ahead of their eras

the thing about Graf and a few others was / is [for me] that they were singles players only

Buille-Jean, Martina  aand others played doubles and mixed doubles too; I think that counts for something

the williams sisters are a good doubles pair, sadly they often scratch from that when they are in semis or finals of sngles events
