Oh whoopee!

The glorified sports day is with us once more! As for my views, I don't have any. Ask the people of Tibet I'm sure they will have something to say on it!!

I love some of it, in particular the athletes who train so hard to be there for there respective events.  4 yrs of hard training and effort is nothing to be scoffed at imo.

It takes some dedication to do what some of these people do and give up so much for the glory of a piece of metal around there neck!  Not just any medal though but an olympic one!

Although i do take a displeasure at some of the events.  I will not name them as i would not wish to offend.

Look forward to it like i do most of these sporting events, just a shame this one is such a distance away.  Usually means the times are to pot for watching with work.

I will be glued to it from beginning to end.

BBCi will be really useful this time around as I will be able to watch real coverage as opposed to the inane ramblings of the pundits in between a couple of minutes coverage of some no hoper Brit having a go at something.

In particular, the judo starts on the first day of competition and there will be full coverage on 'the red button' which will be fantastic for me. Similarly, the diving, boxing, weightlifting, wrestling and so on will also be available live and in full so any fans can see it all (normally you get an extremely potted highlights package which shows the Brit losing and the medal performances).

I can't wait!!

Gymnastics is actually one of my favourite things to watch    I just think it is amazing what they can do with their bodies and the technique involved. Plus some of the Russian/Eastern European women are stunningly beautiful - in a tall, skinny, miserable lookng kind of way

Boltyness is an animal. I hope he goes for the double because he will win the 200m in a hack canter and who knows maybe even MJ's 19.32 could be in danger?

The 100m if Bolt turns up is gonna be a gun-show. Powell, Gay and Bolt? The best 100m line up i can remember.........

DD.

Oh go on, do tell!

I enjoy a lot of the Olympic sports, including the athletics (particularly the longer distance races and the marathon). Also some of the field events (javelin, which I used to do myself, high jump, pole vault and so on).

Of the non-athletics, I like the boxing, weightlifting, cycling and the equestrian events (obviously) - also the modern pentathlon because you get to see people falling off horses quite a lot!

Can't stand the gymnastics, particularly the womens' events, because of the history of exploitation of youngsters. The men's events are interesting, though....

It's a pity that sailing and shooting aren't more "telegenic".

I would be interested to know the spread on chinese Gold Medals

I suspect there will be a crop of previously unkown individuals putting in astonishing performances....

On a wider front the digital coverage will, as has been said, help those who like the less popular sports keep up with developments and see more of their chosen activities.

Looing forward as always to teh swimming,  then the athletics; the Olympic football will be worth watching. hope the smog stays away

I am looking forward to the athletics, the eventing and also young Tom the diver.

So if it rains this August I won't mind much because I can remain glued to the box!

I love the Olympics, that and the Ryder Cup are my two fave sporting events.

Really looking forward to the badminton, cycling and swimming in particular.  My biggest fear is that I think this year there will be a greater liklihood of drug cheats, particularly from Chinese athletes.

Have to say I'm looking forward to the Olympics too - it's one of the times I end up sitting and watching loads of events that I would never normally sit down and watch!
