It's a comma sham.

A billionaire gets warned off. He'll pop up again somewhere in a couple years.

A team gets a slap on the wrist.

And viewing figures are going up.

Everyone loves controversy.

Just a quick betting thought.

Lay Jenson to win WDC now (about 1.25 Bfair) His car was ghastly in practice on the soft tyres and he was whingeing away again so there's a very good chance he'll suffer badly in quali.

Unless his team mate's prepared to crash (!) there's a good chance that he'll not qualify well and a repeat of spa is possible. Conversely Rubens is doing well and may close the gap rather.

Hamilton to quali fastest by the way, but again not a great price. Kovi might be better at about 12s.

Re the Renaut suspended ban. The FIA had no choice, but it's a rubbish punishment. The truth is that Mosley wanted to get Briatore, but never rule Briatore as down and out, he'll get his own back somehow.

They seem to be finding Suzuka a bit of a handful this weekend

Dunno how Glock's done it but he's got a "leg wound" (which just makes me go all Monty Python) from his crash in qualifying; haven't said if he can race tomorrow.

The gravel traps are looking next to useless - aside from Glock, Webber and Jaime Alguersuari also went off - the latter's looked a heavy one so it was good to see him get out.

Grid is a mess too, loads of cars demoted for various reasons - Button, Rubens, Alonso, Sutil, Buemi, Heikki K and Liuzzi all drop 5 places from their original positions.

The lack of running will affect the race too tomorrow. Given that we saw about 6 crashes today there's going to be safety cars and/or red flags tomorrow so a big tank of fuel will help. The sheer number of rookies virtually guarantees it; and the run-off areas are unforgiving at Suzuka, it's a proper race circuit not a desert dullard.

Vettel should have this by the bottom but Rosberg will be keen to atone for Singapore (should have won) and is the furthest forward on the grid with a big tank-full. If some joker (probably him ) bins it at the right time then he could profit. He's 60s or so on Betfair and might be a good back to lay.

Vettel at 1.8 or Sea the Stars at 1.7.... which of those is truly value???

ps surely Glock shouldn't race; he binned it because he couldn't concentrate for 2 laps having had a nasty virus, how the hell will he do 60? He must be a brave boy, or the sponsors very persuasive...

He didn't, he couldn't move his leg.

And not everyone is convinced he was *really* ill... given that a Japanese driver was allowed to go out in his place

More to the point, I can't believe I actually thought this would be worth getting up early to watch. That's 3 hours of sleep needlessly wasted.

Didn't set my alarm but happened to wake up at bang on 05:59 so got up to watch

Pretty good race I thought. Horrid start for Button but drove a slick race after that - as he nearly always does. He's always rock solid in the race so just needs to hook up a top 4/5 qualifying position in Brazil and he should get the job done

Incredibly, Massa is hoping to drive in the last Grand Prix of the season, at Abu Dhabi.

I'm guessing he was hoping for his home GP. The guy is bonkers, but I really hope he can come back and have a good solid drive round.

Great that the weather here is better than in Brazil

This could get very entertaining - if they can get out of the garage!

Isn't it ridiculously dangerous for this sport to have a rule where drivers can run with a dry car today (in the wet) just in case it's dry tomorrow?

I totally lose track of the rules these days but this seems like a daft one!
