This might sound boring but the key to making a profit is not get sucked into betting on every race. Find the betting opportunities study the form and keep away from handicaps !
If your serious about making money you need to treat this like any other day and not start chasing loses in 30 runner mares only handicaps hurdles.!!!

I agree about not betting each race - but handicaps are where you can make hay if you focus on the right ones. Give me a handicap hurdle anyday _________________ One way to stop a runaway horse is to bet on him.

I don't think betting on every race at Cheltenham is anywhere near as bad as betting on all the races at a Plumpton Monday afternoon card.
Apart from the new races you have pretty good Stats for all the races especially the handicaps so it is very easy to narrow down the potential winners.
The only dificult race is going to be the new Conditional Jockeys race but apart from that I would and probably will be betting on every race.
I have said it in the past it is much more Important to back more than 1 runner in a race, possibly even 3 or 4 than trying to pick between them. _________________ Forest are Treemendous
Im suprised people are so negative, for most of the races I will be using the stats and would hope to make some kind of profit on those. And then I will do some lucky 15's and placepots of my own selections. I'd still be hopeful of some kind of profit though. Was it last year Pedrobob won the the bumper cos I made a decent profit that year
He won the County Hurdle two years ago.
Yeah, thats what I meant, when i logged off the computer last night I remembered last year I was skiing in Austria for Cheltenham week, never again though will I miss it _________________ 2008 Roll Of Honour (So Far....)

I agree that if you are going to back at Cheltenham then it is not a hinderance to back in every race. I will also be splitting stakes in all races and will probs back 2 in each race as picking just one is such a tough thing to do in these kind of races _________________ 2008 Roll Of Honour (So Far....)

I agree that it is not too bad backing in every race at the Festival - my gut however is to double my stake in the non handicap races, however if you are looking at an e/w horse in those races it is limited value as a lot of the have 16+ runners and still only pay 1-2-3. So tend to try win bets on non handicaps and e/w in handicaps.
Well all my antepost bets so far have came from winnings in which i havent included in my spreadsheet so AP bets anything i get is a positive, i am quite hopefull on them. Id like to clear 4 figures. _________________ Wolves winner 20.1.08
I have a plan of attack for this year but I might be a year too late.
After 4 profitable Cheltenham weeks in a row I am very confident this year. I have cut down on Ante post betting almost completely (Apart from Whiteoak in the CH TBP) and I am starting to get used to my rules of stats betting for the week. _________________ ROLL OF HONOUR

If this year is anything like the past forty or so then I will have no more than one winner per day and that will not return enough to break even. The placepot will go down by a horse finishing fourth in a photo finish.
I do not care. The quality of the racing and the atmosphere make this the best racing experience anywhere in the world. _________________ Trying - always.

I reckon your stakes are similar to mine. I budget on an average of a tenner a race, although my stakes will obviously vary.
Since new years day, any gambling & poker profits have been put in savings and thanks to a few tasty returns I am pretty much betting with profit and its paid for my entrance. Just got to raid the family allowance for booze and grub!! (although a hip flask or two makes that cheaper)
There are some good opportunites this year so would be happy to finish around 8K in front, i have a couple of AP bets that will gross over that, but they have to win first!!
£1,000,000
As i hope to do every year but never seem to do it! _________________ "whats the point of going out, we are only going to end up back here anyway!"

The kind of money that some people gamble with blows my mind. The most I have ever put on a horse was £50. It won, but I felt sick from the moment I put the bet on.
I'd be happy to break even, but then i just back outsiders, and do pick a couple each race. Ill probably only spend like £150 on bets for the week, but then i only need a winner or two to cover all my bets.
The year before last i had Ebazyian in the first, 3 quid and returned over 70 pound on the tote i think. So that was all my bets paid for.
Had my biggest bet ever this year tho, exotic dancer in the Gold Cup, had 25 pound on it and gonna win about £1800 when he hacks in
