Agreed.

Literally minutes after I posted Freddie completed his 5-for and was slashed 4 points across the board for the award....

I'd love to see him battle his way through three more tests and if the outcome is positive, coupled with him bowing out he could swing it, IMO.

If England win the Ashes they might be team of the year, although Brawn GP might have a chance too if Button is Champion.

boxing does not have the terrestrial profile, especially on BBC

F1 now on BBC, Button being hero-worshipped all over the networks on a regular basis , if/when he wins the title he is a shoe-in

Plus not many people like him. He'd never get the votes

Are you seriously trying to tell me that F1 is more popular in England than cricket?!

I don't buy it. Did the nation have a tickertape parade when Mansell, Hill or Hamilton won the F1 chmp? No.

This Ashes series is shaping up to be a real classic (unless one side folds and I can't see that happening) so just imagine the scenes that will occur if England win it again so soon. You folks seem to forget the euphoria that swept the nation in '05. And to add more spice look at all the records falling this time.

Of course Sir Freddie will arise (probably 3 days after the parade if history is anything to go by   )

So hold onto your arses and just enjoy the ride.

(I hope I don't regret typing all of that)

F1 does have a very big following & it would be no surprise if Button won the vote.

Cricket has mass appeal but if England get beaten in the series then the heroics of Cardiff & Lords will soon be forgotten.

Freddie has already won SPOTY in 2005 & there's no history of anyone doing it twice!

Not sure about Sir A Flintoff, that might come after his playing days are over. I don't think anyone has received a Knighthood while still playing.

So being a whole hearted cricketer with a very ordinary test record is enough to get a knighthood these days? Or will it be for his services to the pedalo industry!

Getting knighthoods is not just about ability.... in any walk of life not just sport. But if you want an example in the same industry, Mike Brearley OBE was a crap test cricketer!

However, if your argument is he shouldn't get one becuase of the pedalo and other assosrted incidents then although I still don't agree I can see your point!

It is strange that Flintoff has a Test record that doesn't do him credit but a fair few bowlers have bowled well in the past but got no reward to show for it!

Don't forget to receive an Honour you have to be nominated for it.

That fact that someone will put his name forward & it's taken up will be no fault of Flintoff's.

Its now 9/4 Button, 3/1 Ennis, 4/1 Murray, 5/1 Freddie...

I know which one I'd rather take out for dinner but I reckon Jenson is more likely to win the money to pay for the meal than Jessica...
