Royal Ascot is a racing event! Nothing else imho! The BBC should talk about Racing, not fashion!

You are in the vast minority of viewers in this opinion. It is a sporting AND social event and the royal procession and fashion are integral parts of its unique history. If you really think it's purely about the sport, why not write to the authorities suggesting it be restaged at Southwell with no dress code.

(I guess I'm biased as that 2 second shot of me has been on the Beeb again- my dad set the video today, so the nans will be happy....)

If I'm right, they were using that shot as part of the montage/summing up of the meeting! Should be on the highlights (?tonight)

Edited to add: Jimbob, not everyone who goes racing is a hardcore racing nut! I've actually, over the past couple of years, got quite used to the fashion stuff, which I find amusing at moments, and if not can go and make a cup of tea (or pour a glass...) while it's on. If racing is to survive the recession, the more people that can be got interested, even if it's only in hats, the better.
