I've been googling try to find the proper quote but I can't... Something about "you can judge a civilisation by it's prisons or how it treats it prisoners"

Whatever he did he's an old man who won't be around much longer.  Maybe the politicians wanted to appear less heartless than normal by letting him out or maybe they actually have a heart! (Doubt it)

Biggs was a total attention seeker who would probably love all this attention if he realised he was getting it - I'd rather forget about him now he's out.

"The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering the prisons."

The late, great Fyodor Dostoyevsky.

he hasnt been in prison of late; he's been in hospital

and when he was in rison he was living in better conditions and getting better fed than many OAPs who are forgotten about by our society.

Yes he was having the time of his life strapped to the bed, surrounded by guards and being fed through tubes.

Im talking about how he is now Geordie, this wonderful life you seem to be suggesting. As MTV has rightly stated, there are far worse people than Biggs who have been released.

and I was saying that he was getting cared for in prison better than a lot of honest hardworking pensioners

oh and he seems to be making a remarkable recovery judging by the People today and the news on TV......and of course as his son said this isnt turning into a mdia circus hence his exclusive with a tabloid

makes me vomit.

as a cynical man I am not surprised.

What gets me is why people think a criminal is sorry, just because he says so. If you think about it, they are just as likely to lie to get parole.

The ones I think are telling the truth, are like the guys jailed for the 3 Essex boys killings. The continue to say they are not guilty so stay in jail, if they had lied they would be due parole and released by now.

At the end of the day this doesnt really have much to do with the biggs case because he said he wasnt sorry for anything. Should we be more lenient with him because he's honest? Certainly not. I think its quite pathetic of him to use the argument 'i dont regret anything in life because i wouldnt of had my son'

To end my involvement in this never ending discussion, this is a quote off Yahoo News.  Biggs will turn 80 on Saturday - the 46th anniversary of the robbery. Michael Biggs said his father had expressed regret for the robbery, but did not regret "living the life he had".

I wonder when he did so

presumably at the same time as the man said to be incapable of speech or writing etc expressed his delight at the decision of jack straw. telepathic communication?

Throughout his time HE has never expressed any remorse at all

and Alan, do you really think that the issue of remorse (which tends to relate to serious rather than petty crme) has a major influence on teh re-offending stats? compared to peer pressure, discrimination inthe job market, social background and home life?

next thing son of Biggs will be wanting us to fnd his trip to Dignitas so his dad can exercise his "right" to die with dignity

Not only did he not express remorse, he was even churning out dross with the Sex Pistols with titles such as Cosh The Driver.

The man is scum. We've been told he'll probably not see out the weekend. What a load of tosh.

He made fools of the coppers back then.

As mentioned, todays' coppers have more pressing matters to attend to.

It's a political gambit by Jack Straw.

As long as Biggs stays very unhealthy, he'll stay out of jail.

if he jumps out of bed and starts a highland fling he wont be back inside, he has been effectively released without conditions

As i have stated before, the whole justice system stinks. No parole or compassionate leave should be granted until their full sentence is served.
I think it is a sad state of affairs that this appears on a thread about some petty old crim when it should have a thread on its own but then again this fella is not in the media circus

Oh that's alright then

Perhaps he'll be well enough togo into a care home in a week or so as well. He can go into the same one as Ronnie Biggs that'll really be a great advert for the British justice system won't it
