Not going to continue discussing this subject on this thread or anywhere else on this forum. I've deleted my post as it will only cause controversy, guarantee me a lot of abuse and doubtless give the admin team cause for a headache I don't want to give them.

on the day Harry Patch was laid to rest we released from prison this piece of drt

And on the BBC, guess which one of those stories was read out before the other on the radio news.

When he gets a good old east end gangland burial and sells his tale to a newspaper and is turned into some lovable rogue martyr, spare a thought for the victims of his crimes, please.

Agree 100% with that.

When I read up about this the other week I thought it was quite poetic that the driver of the train who was clubbed on the head and died several years later, died a richer man than the robbers themselves because the public donated lots of money to him due to his woes.

Your kidding me right ? Biggs is so ill he is unlikely to see the inside of anywhere other than his home and a hospital. He cant walk, cant feed himself ect ect. What the hell happened to compassion for a dying man, no longer a threat to anyone ?

Sorry Alan but if you do the crime, you need to be prepared to do the time. Ronnie Biggs is a coward, a traitor to the country and doesn't deserve compassion from you, me, or anybody else. he is a man who has shown no remorse for what he has done and has made a very good living sunning it up in Brazil. And people expect us to feel sorry for this scumbag? Give me one good reason why I should?

So, because he's ill, he's a great bloke all of a sudden and it doesn't matter what he's done before and whether he's paid, or even shown remorse for his crimes now does it?

I don't see the logic in that accusation, if it was true why wasn't he hanged? He took part in a robbery that, at the time, was an affront to the powers that be, I don't know whether he was the one who hit Jack Mills, but I suppose was complicit in the action.  The indisputable outcome, if he had not escaped, and had served his time, would be that some chat show host or some mickey mouse paper would have paid him for his life story, just like a lot of other criminals are treated, or a documentary putting the case forward that it was not all that bad a crime.  He will shortly be history, a tin pot baddie has been, that had his fifteen minutes of fame, and will be dead, more than likely before this thread has run it's course.

So irrespective of the wrongs you have done the life you have lied, the crimes committed and the glorying inthem, once you're knackered we should all gt round and love him to bits?

Alan, at no stage in his life has he expressed any remose for his actions; he reveled in the notoriety his crime and escape gave him and only left Brazil because his money ran out and he was ill.

It is not only about what he was, is and can and can't do for himself. The media circus around this man and the way he will be portrayed by his family and hangers on will make even the compassionate question this move. Trust me. There is still a feeling that the Karys weren't all bad, lovely lads, kind to their mum. It makes me sic

Biggs was never sentenced for absconding, no-one was ever brought to justice for his escape, the money from teh robery was in substatial part undiscovered. Someone somewhere is/has benn living off those proceeds.

Can I also remind you that less than 6 months before he "gave himself up" (ie needed NHS care) he fought against an extrdition request relying on a Brazilian statute of limitations. We should have there and then revoked any right of residency in the UK and left him there.

Frankly i do not see what the fuss is all about.
1000's of prisoners are released every year on parole and license and no one screams and shouts about them. Quite a few go on to re-offend and some even kill again.
At least Biggs wont be reoffending as he will be dead soon.
You either let people serve their full sentence all the time or not. You cant have it both ways.

He will die laughing at us. As a Nation we are weak as p1ss and a soft touch in so many ways.

More fool us collectively, maybe, but it doesn't mean as individuals we all have to respect anyone who blatently exploits it.
