I think over time it now happens outside the workplace more so than in.

For which I again blame Supermarkets for

How exactly?

Because people from different walks of life generally will not have anywhere socially on a regular basis that they would ever meet and talk anymore because everybody now goes to the supermarket to buy there under cut priced alcohol.
How often these days would a solicitor or an accountant talk to or even be social friends with a refuse collector or ground worker.
Them and Us

question is would soemeone with the integrity of a ground worker talk to a parriah like me?

A lot of it has to do with Just how the English behave socially or certainly have come to behave over the years. Although it was along time ago when I was In New Zealand I found that when someone walked into a pub they generally went to a table where people were already sat wether they new them or not, I know this because on about 3 or 4 occasions me and my mate were sat down and people had walked in and Just come and sat down with us and started talking and we definately did not know them. Here however as we all know people would always walk Into a pub and go to an empty table[/quote]

Sadly your right.. Probably due to the fact that if you did go and sit with people at a table you would more often than not be told to P--s off or words to that effect.
