if we do fill the allocation of 40 shares what about upping the monthly cost to £50 a share that way there will always be someting left in the pot for little emergencies. Its a bit risky spending the entire monthly budget every month then find we need some and have to ask member to pay an emergency payment

Kyle, sorry this seems to be going out of your reach. I did try to cost realistically, but it is only when you discover the detail you really do get an overall picture which is actually practical.

Maybe in a while, I hope!

Nick and Blueboy, don't worry. Back seat is no problem. The syndicate manager will be required to let all members know what is going on (see BHB Guidelines!), and the principle is that everyone has equal rights on most things - only exception is that IF there is any prize money it should (a) go back into the pot to reduce the price of monthly contributions (b) be put into a contingency fund and (c) if large amounts (unlikely) syndicate as a whole should make a decision to distribute, or to re-invest in another horse, or any other option.

This is something we will discuss at the York meeting (if enough of us can come), and decisions made there will be communicated in full.

LETS KEEP THE ORIGINAL IDEA OF £250 FOR THE PURCHASE/ £35 PER MONTH. IF THAT MEANS WE REQUIRE 50 MEMBERS THEN THATS WHAT IT SHOULD BE. IF WE ONLY HAVE 30 MEMBERS, THEN WE MUST ASK THE CHOSEN TRAINER IF HE`S INTERESTED IN THE OTHER 40%(20 SHARES).

THIS WAY WE HAVE A FIXED OUT LAY AND EVERYONE CAN THEN DECIDE IF THEY WANT TO COMMIT OR NOT.

I agree Rapid... Cost will obviously be the determining factor as to whether peeps want to take the plunge or not.. Better having lots of shareholders than a few who may at a later stage feel they have bitten off more than they could chew...

The one thing we have is, plenty of time, we have no deadlines to meet...

Anyone know anything about APPEARANCE MONEY for running your horse at certain tracks ???? I noticed this in a race card and I`m just wondering if this is the norn at all tracks. @ 80p per mile one would have thought there is some sort of incentive to run a horse at a track.

Thanks Rapid, I had not noticed this! Any idea which tracks, how much and so on? Usefulness of such a contribution would depend heavily on where appearance money is offered, how much and at which meetings, for obvious reasons. I don't think it would help in easing the burden of training fees by much, but obviously it depends on figures.

One thing for sure, we would be foolish in the extreme to try and rely on appearance money to lower the monthly cost of a share. If the horse can't make the meeting, it's in the wrong place, at the wrong time......

But certainly worth looking into, I think, as long as we regard it simply as a possible bonus.

Hi Jenny,

I looked at a Perth race card while at lunch. One race The city of Dundee Chase offered £400 for appearance money subject to conditions. This was from the April meeting this year. It was a quick look I had and it appeared this was the only race that day that had appearance money on offer.

I do not know if this sort of thing happens every day. Anyone else know anything ??????

Pity Jon but never mind - it happens! You'll be on the list for when you feel able to join.
